Thanks to a new partnership between Circle K and Berlingske Media, EV drivers in Denmark can now enjoy free access to premium news content while charging their cars.
Circle K and Berlingske Partner for Smarter EV Charging Breaks
From July 10, 2025, Danish electric vehicle (EV) drivers can access free, high-quality news content from Berlingske, one of Denmark’s leading digital media outlets, during charging sessions at Circle K stations. The service is automatically activated through Circle K’s Charge app when users begin charging their vehicles at one of the company’s 600 fast-charging locations across the country. While waiting, drivers now have a useful chance to catch up on news.
This initiative marks the first of its kind in Denmark where a fuel and energy provider integrates free digital media access into its EV charging experience. The intent is to enhance the downtime typically associated with recharging electric vehicles. It’s a small but good change that makes everyday charging feel like a little break.
Improving the Charging Experience
With the number of electric vehicles and demand for public charging infrastructure growing steadily, Circle K is investing heavily to make charging more efficient and enjoyable for EV drivers in Denmark. The company has emerged as a market leader in ultra-fast charging and is enhancing its offering with digital solutions like news access, refreshments, and clean rest areas.
As part of its strategy to make EV charging more appealing, Circle K is continuing to develop its service ecosystem. The inclusion of curated news content responds directly to consumer behavior identified in a recent survey.
What Do Drivers Do When Charging?
According to a 2025 YouGov poll conducted on behalf of Circle K, 38% of EV drivers in Denmark read the news during their charging break, while 52% use the time to relax, and 41% check social media. This data underscores the opportunity to improve customer satisfaction with content offerings during charging.
By integrating with Berlingske—a media group with more than 2.6 million unique monthly visitors—Circle K hopes to provide meaningful value during wait times, helping drivers stay informed and entertained.
How It Works
Gaining access to Berlingske’s digital content is straightforward:
- Users must download and register in the Circle K Charge app.
- Begin charging at one of over 550 Circle K ultra-fast charging stations.
- Automatic access to Berlingske is then granted for up to 60 minutes during the session.
This seamless integration of EV infrastructure and digital media represents a broader shift toward multi-experience platforms in mobility services, offering far more than just power.
More Partnerships Coming
Circle K has announced it is actively exploring additional partnerships with other media and content providers to expand the range of digital entertainment and information available to its customers. Plans also include enhancing food, beverage, and service offerings at charging stations to provide a full-service stop for EV drivers in Denmark.
With nearly 436 fuel stations across Denmark, Circle K has already installed fast-charging facilities at hundreds of locations. By 2030, the company aims to increase its fast-charging stations from 600 to 2,000 sites nationwide.
Circle K’s Drive Toward Green Mobility
Circle K is one of Denmark’s largest providers of fuel, energy, and convenience store services. The company is owned by Canadian retail giant Alimentation Couche-Tard and is playing an increasingly central role in Denmark’s transition to zero-emissions transport.
To support this goal, Circle K is investing over DKK 2 billion (USD 290 million) in green infrastructure, including high-speed EV chargers and sustainable fuel alternatives. Their broader strategy includes catering to the needs of EV users not only with energy but also with digital services that enhance comfort, access to information, and convenience.
As more Danish consumers switch to electric vehicles—it is estimated that nearly 25% of Danes are considering buying an EV in 2025—initiatives like this one could become an industry standard.
