Danish Science Day Open to Thousands of Students

More than 3,000 Danish students will step out of the classroom and into the world of science and technology on October 1, as part of the Danish Science Day 2025, featuring 28 events in the Greater Copenhagen area alone.

Students and STEM Professionals Come Together for Danish Science Day 2025

Science Day 2025, taking place on Wednesday, October 1, will bring together thousands of students and professionals across Denmark in an expansive initiative focused on promoting science and technology among youth. In the Greater Copenhagen region, 28 companies, universities, and organizations will host on-site experiences for students, giving them hands-on exposure to natural sciences and technical fields. It helps students explore science.

The event is organized by Naturvidenskabernes Hus, a Danish non-profit organization that facilitates educational engagement between schools and businesses. This year marks the 12th edition of the nationwide initiative, which is now part of Denmark’s official Year of Vocational Education and Training 2025. The event also supports future careers.

Focus on Inclusion and Real-World Experience

The Danish Science Day is designed to inspire students from 4th grade through high school and encourage them to consider educational pathways in STEM – science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. A core focus of this year’s initiative is to combat stereotypical perceptions about who belongs in the science and tech fields and to promote diversity among future professionals.

To that end, companies are highlighting employees from a wide range of backgrounds and career paths, hoping to serve as relatable role models for young participants. Students will have the opportunity to take part in interactive, real-world activities such as experiments, design challenges, programming tasks, and innovation workshops during their visits.

This exposure helps break down barriers and offers students tangible insights into what a career in Danish science and technology can actually look like. Organizers stress the importance of students feeling seen and included in traditionally male-dominated academic fields, such as computer science and technical trades, where women remain underrepresented. For example, women currently make up only 10% of students in many technical vocational programs in Denmark.

Feedback Highlights the Program’s Value

Feedback from previous years shows overwhelmingly positive responses. In the 2024 edition, 89% of participating students described the event as a worthwhile and enjoyable experience. Furthermore, 99% of teachers reported that the event gave their students valuable insights into educational and career opportunities in STEM-related areas.

Educators also noted that the event improved their own understanding of employment sectors and training routes available to their students. In many cases, teachers reported that Danish Science Day helped them initiate ongoing partnerships with local companies for future educational collaborations.

A Platform for Stronger School-Business Relationships

One of the lasting benefits of Science Day is its ability to strengthen the connection between schools and industry. Naturvidenskabernes Hus hopes that this annual event will serve as a launchpad for continued collaboration throughout the school year. This aligns with ongoing political efforts in Denmark to make education more practical and inclusive, ensuring that all students – regardless of background – can envision a future in STEM.

To participate as a host organization, companies must be supporting or core members of Naturvidenskabernes Hus. These members open their doors to students with tailored workshops and programs that highlight real workplace challenges and foster curiosity, problem-solving, and innovation.
