Danish Man Accused of Running Global Cocaine Empire

A 37-year-old Danish citizen with Polish roots is suspected of leading a vast international cocaine network stretching from South America to Europe. He has been held in custody in Denmark since November while Poland seeks his extradition.

An Alleged Global Drug Boss

Authorities in multiple countries believe a Danish man is at the top of a criminal organization that has trafficked enormous amounts of drugs across continents. According to Poland’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBSP), the man led an organized network responsible for smuggling major quantities of narcotics including marijuana, hash, and up to 6.5 tons of cocaine.

CBSP says the suspect evaded law enforcement throughout 2023 and was listed by Interpol as wanted internationally. Investigations suggest the group’s web of operations extended across the United States, Morocco, Colombia, and several European nations.

Billions in Cocaine Shipments

In Denmark, cocaine typically costs around 500 to 600 kroner per gram at street level. If the seized cocaine truly totaled several tons, the combined value could easily reach into the billions. However, estimating exact profits in large-scale drug operations is tricky since each shipment passes through many hands before reaching end users.

Cocaine commonly arrives in Europe from South America, often through countries like Poland that serve as major transit points. Related research, such as what was discovered about Danish cocaine use at Roskilde Festival, shows how wide the market for the drug has become.

The man’s organization is believed to have operated since around 2010. In Spain, he is also suspected of being involved in the murder of a Polish citizen, prompting authorities there to seek his extradition as well.

Life Between Denmark, Spain, and the U.S.

The Danish suspect was born in Denmark and lived his early years in Copenhagen’s Nørrebro neighborhood before his family moved to Spain when he was about five years old. In adult life, he reportedly lived for a period on Spain’s southern coast, an area known for ties to organized crime.

Public records reviewed by investigators show that he once managed a company registered in the United Kingdom. The firm has since declared bankruptcy and owes outstanding debts to British authorities. Documents reveal numerous unexplained changes of directors during the company’s short existence, raising questions about its activities.

Despite his Danish citizenship, there is no indication that any of the alleged criminal acts took place in Denmark.

Arrested in Florida and Detained in Denmark

The man was arrested by police in Florida in late 2023 after years on the run. He reportedly had managed or co-owned small businesses in Florida and Texas. Following his arrest, U.S. authorities deported him and placed him on a flight to Copenhagen, where he was detained upon arrival at the airport on November 13.

Copenhagen Police confirmed his detention but have offered no further comment. Court documents from Copenhagen City Court describe that he expressed a willingness to be extradited to Spain but refused extradition to Poland.

Authorities say his wife and child remain in Florida. So far, he has not stated a clear position regarding the serious narcotics charges. Attempts by Danish and Spanish lawyers to speak publicly about the case have been unsuccessful.

Awaiting Extradition

The suspect remains in pre-trial custody in Denmark as Polish prosecutors formally request his extradition. The Danish courts will decide whether to hand him over to Poland or to Spain, depending on which jurisdiction can pursue charges first.

Whatever the outcome, the case has revealed how complex and far-reaching Europe’s cocaine trade continues to be and how even individuals with Danish citizenship can become deeply involved in international drug networks operating on several continents.
