Airbnb invasion: Polish couple seeks 600,000 kr in court

A Polish couple testified in Odense City Court on Monday about a masked home invasion at an Airbnb villa in Korup, where two men were looking for the property’s owner. Three defendants deny the charges, and a verdict is expected in early September.

Avisen Danmark reports that the 27-year-old Polish man gave his account Monday morning at Retten i Odense. He and his pregnant wife had rented a villa on Stentevangen in Korup long term through Airbnb, together with an acquaintance. Around 3 a.m. during the night of April 30, 2025, two masked men forced their way in.

The men were looking for the landlord, who was not home. The Polish tenant testified that he woke to his wife screaming and crying, and that the intruders blinded them with flashlights. He said he was struck repeatedly in the head with a sledgehammer and a pistol, handed over the couple’s phones, and was forced to kneel in the living room.

According to his testimony, one of the men held a pistol to his head and told him he would die. A shot was fired close to his head, leaving him nearly deaf in one ear. His wife and their dog were held back in the bedroom by the second man, who was armed with a hammer.

The man then grabbed a kitchen knife from the adjacent kitchen and stabbed the armed intruder several times, and the other man fled. Emergency dispatchers instructed him by phone on how to give first aid to the wounded attacker, who had four stab wounds. The pistol later turned out to be a gas and signal pistol loaded with blanks, which the couple did not know at the time.

The man, who worked in Denmark as an electrician, said he has PTSD and is still receiving psychological treatment. He has lasting damage to one finger and told the court he can no longer work. The compensation claim exceeds 600,000 kroner for pain and suffering and lost earnings.

A 26-year-old man from Assens, a 31-year-old man from Southern Jutland and a 27-year-old Ukrainian woman are charged in the case. Prosecutors say the woman, a former girlfriend of the villa’s owner, sent the two men to find him. All three deny guilt, and the two men admit being present but dispute how violent the assault was.

TV 2 Fyn reports that the woman denies sending the men and also faces charges in two other violence cases involving the same ex-boyfriend. JydskeVestkysten reported from the courtroom that the 31-year-old, from Rødekro, traveled to Funen to confront his girlfriend’s ex, and that the plan went wrong.

Both men listened to the couple’s testimony from a room next to the courtroom, at the couple’s request. Fyens Stiftstidende reported at the start of the trial that a verdict is expected in early September 2026. The outlet has also reported that the intended target went into hiding before appearing in court to testify.
