DR premieres the documentary “Alene hjemme med porno” on August 17, 2026. In it, a 24-year-old man called August describes how he began watching online pornography daily at the age of 11.
According to DR, August’s use began after he won an iPad at age 11. There were no restrictions on the device, and he did not tell his parents what he was doing on it.
August tells DR that his consumption grew steadily, describing it as a snowball effect. He watched several times a week, and sometimes two or three times a day, including in bathrooms. Before a family holiday, he says, his main thought was when he would next be able to watch. DR knows his full name but withholds it for privacy reasons.
The director of Digitalt Ansvar, Ask Hesby Holm, tells DR that children find it very hard to resist the retention mechanisms built into pornography. He notes that many children say they wish they spent less time on it, and that adults struggle to cut back too. August says he now regrets the scale of his use, and that shame kept him from raising it with his parents.
Counseling line reports porn-related contacts
The child rights organization Red Barnet opened the anonymous counseling line TalMedOs in 2025 for children and young people. DR reports that it has received 266 contacts since then, most of them concerning worries about pornography use. A Red Barnet press release from December 2025 stated that counselors held 172 sessions in 2025, with porn use central in 41 of them.
Red Barnet psychologist Pernille Spitz tells DR that pornography releases dopamine in the brain, as gambling does. She says a dependency can develop that is ultimately less about sexual satisfaction than about managing difficult emotions. The documentary features several young people describing similar patterns.
The film is part of a wider DR theme called “Porno uden grænser,” launched on August 17, according to DR’s corporate site. The broadcaster says the theme examines how internet pornography affects Danes’ sexuality and boundaries, accompanied by DR Verificerer and a P3 podcast. DR’s programming overview for the second half of 2026 lists the premiere on DR1 and DRTV.
The documentary follows DR’s 2024 series “Alene hjemme på nettet,” which featured 50 children and young people aged 12 to 18 describing violent and sexual content they met online. As reported by Presse-fotos.dk, DR editor Lasse Bjørch says the film aims to start a public conversation about how pornography can distort young people’s understanding of sex.
The listings service Allatvkanaler.se shows the film airing on DR1 at 21:25 on Monday, August 17. Its description notes that a significant share of children encounter online pornography involuntarily, through friends, school or social media. DR has previously covered related questions about children’s digital lives and platform algorithms.
