Ukraine Builds Rocket Fuel Plant in Denmark

A new Ukrainian defense factory is being built in southern Denmark to produce solid rocket fuel. Danish authorities demand strict safety standards, including pressure-proof doors and reinforced walls, to avoid accidents and ease local concerns.

Fire Point Begins Construction in Southern Denmark

Work has officially started on the Ukrainian defense company Fire Point’s new production site in Vojens, near the airbase Flyvestation Skrydstrup. The facility will produce solid rocket fuel for military use. Danish authorities insist on a long list of special safety requirements to manage the risks tied to such a project.

The new buildings are designed to meet the highest fire and explosion safety standards. They will include extra-thick walls, pressure-resistant doors, and large safety distances between neighboring properties. These safeguards mark an unusual situation for Denmark, as no similar factory currently exists in the country.

Safety Measures and Official Oversight

Because the plant handles highly combustible materials, authorities from the Danish Business Authority have carefully reviewed every layout and construction plan. Old buildings from the site’s previous industrial use have been demolished to make room for new structures that can guarantee protection for both employees and nearby residents.

The factory is expected to become operational in 2026. To speed up the process, the Danish government has temporarily exempted the project from some general construction rules. However, officials have stated that safety regulations remain fully enforced.

The design and risk assessments were made in collaboration with Danish advisors and state inspectors. According to local officials, this partnership ensures that every safety layer is considered before production starts. For the community in Haderslev, safety has been the key demand from day one.

Local Reactions and Political Involvement

The news that an explosives-related production facility would open just outside town sparked strong debate among residents. Some welcome the industrial activity and jobs, while others fear the potential danger of fire or explosion. The mayor of Haderslev, Mads Skau from the Liberal Party, has emphasized that the municipality continues to coordinate closely with the Ministry of Business and the Ministry of Defense.

He stressed that although risk can never be removed entirely, the government and Fire Point are bound to follow every safety condition. Local authorities will keep engaging with residents as the project advances to ensure transparency and trust.

Danish Experts Emphasize the Need for Caution

Chemical safety experts, including specialists from Aarhus University, have pointed out that manufacturing rocket fuel requires strict quality control. They explain that although accidents are unlikely when regulations are followed, even a small mistake could have serious consequences. Because of that, risk assessments play a central role in both design and operations.

Interestingly, experts also note that the careful approach taken by Danish regulators could serve as a model for how Europe can balance fast defense production with strict safety standards. They see this as essential, especially during a time when several NATO partners are increasing cooperation with Ukrainian industries.

Community Dialogue Continues

Two public meetings have already been held in Vojens, giving residents a chance to discuss their views. Authorities used these sessions to explain how the new facility will be monitored and controlled. The aim is to demonstrate that Denmark takes responsibility for the potential risks that come with producing military-grade materials on its soil.

At the same time, locals remain divided about the long-term presence of a foreign defense company nearby. While some appreciate that the project reflects Denmark’s support for Ukraine, others still question whether the small town should carry that kind of responsibility.

Without a doubt, Fire Point’s arrival marks a turning point for the Haderslev area. It highlights the increasingly close partnership between Denmark and Ukraine on defense matters, while also reminding everyone that with innovation comes the obligation to protect people and the environment.
