A new luxury hotel near Copenhagen is using an unconventional recruitment strategy to fill over 100 Danish jobs as it prepares to welcome international guests later this year.
High-End Hotel to Open South of Copenhagen
This fall, Rox Resort, an upscale hotel located at Køge Marina just 30 minutes south of Copenhagen, is set to open its doors to guests from around the world. The resort, which boasts more balconies than guest rooms—168 balconies for 156 rooms—is aiming to redefine coastal luxury in Denmark. The guests can expect a mix of comfort, style and a relaxing coastal experience.
Developed by Sweden-based hospitality firm ESS Group, which also owns the Marienlyst Strandhotel in Helsingør and Ystad Saltsjöbad in southern Sweden, the resort is designed with a strong international appeal in mind. With convenient access to Copenhagen Airport and the future Fehmarn tunnel linking Denmark and Germany, Køge was chosen strategically for its location and growth potential. Its the perfect location for travelers to enjoy both the city and the Danish coast, and it will also create many Danish Jobs.
A Unique Approach to Hiring
To staff the expansive resort, Rox Resort is holding an unconventional mass hiring event on August 16. Instead of traditional interviews, the hotel is organizing a “speed dating” style recruitment day where 130 selected candidates will rotate through 13 five- to seven-minute interview stations. The hotel received over 600 applications for various positions including front desk staff, waiters, cleaning crews, and other hospitality roles—only the most promising candidates were invited.
Once candidates complete their interviews, they will have the opportunity to engage informally with management to ask follow-up questions and showcase their personality—something the hotel values more than formal experience. The selection criteria focus on authenticity, charisma, and the ability to contribute to a five-star guest experience.
Details of the Resort
Rox Resort promises an extensive list of amenities to attract both Danish and international visitors. The resort will include:
- 156 hotel rooms
- 168 balconies with waterfront views
- Six bars and two restaurants
- Three pools and a sauna
- Eight meeting venues
- A variety of leisure activities including paddle tennis and mini golf
The hotel aims to stand out by offering what it calls a “high-end, low-key” experience—a five-star stay without the pretense. Staff are expected to go above and beyond, remembering guests’ names, favorite drinks, and personal preferences to create a deeply personalized and memorable visit.
Targeting an International Crowd
Unlike Rox Resort’s sister properties, which primarily draw from the Nordic region, this new hotel is targeting a broader international audience. The goal is for foreign guests to make up at least 50% of bookings. With its seaside location, luxury amenities, and proximity to cultural attractions, Rox Resort hopes to attract affluent travelers looking to relax outside the overcrowded city center of Copenhagen.
Guests staying in Denmark’s capital may find Rox Resort an ideal post-city retreat. Its location near attractions such as the dramatic cliffs of Stevns Klint, the contemporary art museum ARKEN in Ishøj, and the historic town center of Køge adds to its appeal. The resort also sees itself as fulfilling a growing demand for resort-style accommodations closer to urban centers while creating valuable Danish jobs in the area.
Building a New Team from the Ground Up
While the management team behind Rox Resort has solid experience in the hotel and hospitality sector, launching a new resort of this scale is a first for them, offering new opportunities for Danish jobs. They are eager to bring on team members who are equally excited about being part of something from day one.
Rox Resort is scheduled to open its doors on November 1, 2025, and by then, the hotel hopes to have built a team ready to deliver world-class service with a personal touch. Whether it’s remembering a returning guest’s double espresso or offering a curated list of local experiences, the resort sees people—not just polish—as its greatest asset.
