TV 2 revenue up 5% as Play subscribers grow

TV 2 Danmark reported revenue of 2.2 billion kroner for the first half of 2026, up about 5 percent from a year earlier, and raised its full-year earnings guidance. Profit after tax fell to 206 million kroner, weighed down by the cost of covering major sports events and the general election.

The commercial public service broadcaster published its half-year report on Wednesday, August 26. As Avisen Danmark reports, based on copy from the news agency Ritzau, the revenue increase was driven above all by TV 2’s digital business.

Revenue reached 2.2 billion kroner, against 2.1 billion kroner in the first six months of 2025. Subscription revenue rose 5.6 percent and advertising revenue rose 4.6 percent, measured against the same period in 2025.

According to the report, the higher subscription income reflects a slight increase in the number of subscribers to the streaming service TV 2 Play since the turn of the year. The number of households with a traditional TV package continues to fall.

Guidance raised

TV 2 lifted its expectation for full-year earnings before financial items, or EBIT, from 275 to 300 million kroner to 325 to 350 million kroner. The report states that the adjustment is due to a more favorable revenue development than originally expected.

MediaWatch describes the period as a sports-heavy half-year that pushed content costs higher. The media trade outlet also notes that almost half of TV 2’s total revenue now comes from digital subscriptions and advertising.

Profit after tax came in at 206 million kroner for the first half of 2026, down from 244 million kroner in the same period last year. The decline is linked in part to increased costs for covering a series of large events, including the football World Cup, the men’s handball European Championship and the Danish general election.

TV 2’s chief financial officer, Jakob Fink, said the first half clearly shows what the broadcaster exists to do. Per the report, he pointed to the combination of news, strong Danish programs and sport that engages broadly, and to reaching Danes where they are.

Berlingske covered the same figures in a business context, confirming the 5 percent revenue growth and the rise in TV 2 Play subscribers. BT highlighted the top-line performance, stressing that the growth was primarily driven by digital revenue.

The timing follows TV 2’s published financial calendar, which listed August 26, 2026 as the date for the half-year report. In its annual report for 2025, released in March 2026, the company had forecast around 4 percent revenue growth for 2026 on the back of continued digital expansion.

The shift away from traditional distribution has been a running theme in the Danish market, where viewers increasingly compare Danish TV packages and streaming options.
