Midtjyske Jernbaner will begin operating trains on the Thybanen line in northwestern Jutland from October 1, 2026, as a subcontractor to DSB. DSB takes over the route from GoCollective on September 1.
DSB and the regional operator Midtjyske Jernbaner will cooperate on train services on Thybanen, along the Limfjord. Avisen Danmark reports, citing a DSB press release, that Midtjyske Jernbaner will run the trains as a subcontractor from October 1.
It has not yet been decided how long the arrangement will last. If the preparations fall into place, passengers on the line will meet trains in Midtjyske Jernbaners colors and logo from October 1. The regional council in Region Midtjylland must approve the planned supply of trains, because it expands the company’s current activities.
DSB takes over train operations on the route from GoCollective on September 1 under the name DSB Vores Tog. According to former transport minister Thomas Danielsen of Venstre, GoCollective, which was called Arriva until 2023, did not live up to its contract. The cooperation was therefore ended and handed to DSB.
The decision followed many cancellations and delays, with Thybanen among the hardest hit stretches. In one week in August 2025, there were 46 cancellations on the line.
Midtjyske Jernbaner put Denmark’s first battery trains into service in December 2025, on Lemvigbanen and on the state-owned line between Holstebro and Skjern. That freed up four diesel-powered Desiro trains. The company offered those trains to the Transport Ministry in case they were needed elsewhere, and they are the ones now set for Thybanen.

Managing director Martha Vrist says the company knows the route well, having previously operated it. Per her comments in the press release, its train drivers were pleased to work the line last year, and the company aims to deliver punctuality and local presence for customers in northwestern Jutland. She adds that preparations will focus on building a robust daily operation alongside the existing services.
How other outlets reported it
Jyllands-Posten reported the same arrangement, including the October start, the September handover and the required regional council approval. It frames the setup as a temporary operational solution while the transfer is carried out.
BT notes that the arrangement depends on approvals, and that the length of the subcontracting has not been settled. Limfjord Update reports that the Transport Ministry announced the takeover in a press release on June 26, 2026, and that DSB is also taking over rolling stock.
DSB’s own list of press releases includes an item from June 26, 2026, titled “DSB overtager Go Collectives togtrafik 1. september 2026.” That announcement underpins the September date referred to in the coverage.
