Renée Toft Simonsen’s third book about “Børnene fra Sølvgade” is being made into a film, with a Danish cinema premiere set for October 14, 2027.
The adaptation was announced on Wednesday by the production company Rocket Road Pictures and Nordisk Film Distribution in a press release. The announcement was reported by Avisen Danmark, based on material from the news agency Ritzau.
Simonsen has written the screenplay herself, based on her own book “Børnene fra Sølvgade slår rødder”. As with the two previous films, the story centers on four children and their foster parents. The film is scheduled to open in Danish cinemas on October 14, 2027.
Jakob Fauerby returns as the housekeeper Miss Nelly, and Anders W. Berthelsen returns as Miss Nelly’s partner, Brian. Kirsten Lehfeldt and Rasmus Brohave also come back in their respective roles. Among the new faces are Mille Gori and Christian Tafdrup.
The plot begins when one of the children receives a trip as a gift. The group then travels to Spain, hoping to find their biological father. According to Rocket Road Pictures and Nordisk Film Distribution, the film deals with what family means, and with the idea that chosen bonds can be as strong as those people are born into.
The first adaptation of Simonsen’s books premiered in 2024 and sold 190,000 cinema tickets, per the announcement. It won two statuettes at Robert Prisen in 2025. The film was named children’s and youth film of the year, and Simonsen’s husband, the pop musician Thomas Helmig, received the award for original song of the year for the film’s title track.
The second film, “Børnene fra Sølvgade tager kampen op”, drew around 150,000 admissions in Danish cinemas. Both earlier titles were also based on Simonsen’s books in the same series. The third installment continues with the same central characters.
Simonsen is a trained psychologist and had a career as a model before turning to writing. She is also the author of the children’s book series about the girl Karla. The first three books in that series have likewise been adapted for the screen.
The announcement from Rocket Road Pictures and Nordisk Film Distribution did not include information about the start of production or filming locations. No further details about the budget or the full cast list were given.
