Greenlandic singer and songwriter Rasmus Lyberth turns 75 on Friday, August 21, 2026. He is marking the milestone with a birthday concert at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen.

He described himself modestly, noting that many singers in Greenland are far more famous than he is. His focus, he said, is on spreading his language out into the world.
All of Lyberth’s lyrics are written and sung in Greenlandic. According to the Avisen Danmark interview, he is aware that many listeners do not understand the words, but he says curiosity makes them listen. He asked why he should not use his own language when so many others sing in English or Danish.
Concert at the Old Stage
The Royal Danish Theatre has scheduled the concert, titled “Rasmus Lyberth 75 år,” at its Old Stage in Copenhagen. The theatre’s show listings place the event on September 6, 2026, and describe Lyberth as Greenland’s great voice. According to the theatre, the program draws on songs from his 60-year career.

Speaking to Avisen Danmark, Lyberth summed up the coming evening briefly, saying it will be good. He called it a thank you to everyone in Denmark who has followed his career. He described the concert as an evening of music combined with candid personal storytelling.
Before his breakthrough in the 1970s, Lyberth worked at sea and as a helicopter mechanic, according to the same interview. He said time now passes faster than before, and that he has become slower while still wanting to fit everything in. On the birthday itself he plans to relax alone at home, something he said he is looking forward to.
