Police shoot man during Haderslev pursuit, leg injury

Police shot a 24-year-old man in the leg during a pursuit and arrest in Haderslev on Sunday morning. The man was taken to a hospital and is not in life-threatening condition.

DR reports that officers fired shots at the 24-year-old in Haderslev on Sunday, August 23. According to the Independent Police Complaints Authority, cited by Ritzau, the man was hit in the leg.

In a press release, South and South Jutland Police said patrols pursued the man during the morning and got him to stop. Warning shots and shots were fired by officers from Southeast Jutland Police during the pursuit and the subsequent arrest.

The man was brought to a hospital and is out of danger, according to the police. The Independent Police Complaints Authority received the report shortly after 10 a.m. and then began examining the case.

Ekstra Bladet writes that the complaints authority put the time of the shots at 10:03 a.m. As reported by the same outlet, the officers behind the shots were employed by Southeast Jutland Police, and the pursuit crossed into the South and South Jutland police district.

Per Ekstra Bladet, the case is now being investigated by the complaints authority. A report will then be sent to the State Prosecutor in Viborg.

TV 2 confirmed that a young man was shot by police in Haderslev during a pursuit and was hit in the leg. The outlet noted that authorities had not disclosed his condition beyond the timing of the report to the complaints authority. TV SYD also reported on the same incident.

Road closures in and around the town

The police said they are examining several locations in Haderslev. Moltrup Landevej has been closed from the town boundary to the junction with Norgesvej, according to the force.

The same applies to Ribevej in the eastbound direction from E45 exit 68, the Hammelev exit, and at the junction of Ribe landevej and Elmevej in the westbound direction. The closures were announced while the investigation was still underway.

Shortly after noon, South and South Jutland Police stated that officers were present in central Haderslev in connection with an incident. The force said it expected to remain in the area for some hours.

No further details about the circumstances of the pursuit have been released by the police or the Independent Police Complaints Authority.
