Pokémon GO Takes Over Copenhagen in 2026

Pokémon GO Fest will arrive in Copenhagen, turning Fælledparken into a lively meeting point for players from around the world. The three-day festival is expected to bring massive crowds, social fun, and major economic gains for Denmark’s capital.

Copenhagen Named Host City for Global Pokémon GO Fest

Copenhagen will soon join the global spotlight as one of only three cities chosen to host Pokémon GO Fest in 2026. Alongside Tokyo and Chicago, Denmark’s capital will become a gathering place for thousands of fans who chase and collect virtual creatures in the popular mobile game. For one weekend in June 2026, Fælledparken will become a live, interactive arena dedicated entirely to Pokémon GO players.

The event gives fans a chance to meet in person, explore the city, and take part in numerous in-game challenges. While anyone can visit the festival grounds, players who want the full experience will need to purchase a ticket, according to Wonderful Copenhagen, which helped secure the hosting rights.

A Growing Pokémon Community in Denmark

Over the years, Copenhagen has developed a strong local Pokémon GO community. Weekly “Pokémon walks” across the city bring together people of all ages—from small children to retirees. These walks are typically arranged by official community ambassadors who coordinate routes and help new players participate.

For enthusiasts like Benjamin Herbst, one of 12 official Pokémon GO ambassadors in Denmark, the news is monumental. He spends his weekends organizing meetups where players can trade and hunt together, adding rare finds like Braviary to each other’s collections. Similar to the growing interest in other outdoor activities such as surfing events, these social gatherings have become a familiar part of the urban outdoor scene.

Fans Travel Far for the Experience

Dedicated players like Gerda Brandt Jakobsen travel internationally to attend Pokémon GO Fests. She has already participated in festivals in Berlin, London, Madrid, and Paris. The excitement around the upcoming Copenhagen edition is particularly strong among enthusiasts like her, who see the event as much more than a game—it is about community, shared adventures, and a bit of competition.

For many participants, what matters most is connecting with fellow fans. Walking through the park together, chatting, and sharing tips on capturing specific Pokémon turn the digital experience into something tangible and social. In that sense, the festival is as much about friendship as it is about gaming.

Massive Turnout and Economic Boost Expected

From what the organizers have seen in past years, Pokémon GO Fest usually draws an impressive crowd. When New York hosted the festival in 2024, the event saw around 68,000 paying visitors and nearly half a million total participants. According to Niantic, the company behind Pokémon GO, last year’s festivals across Madrid, New York, and Sendai generated around 1.2 billion Danish kroner in total economic impact.

Given that success, Copenhagen is preparing for a significant influx of both Danish and international visitors. The festival’s scale could benefit not only the local tourism sector but also nearby hotels, businesses, and restaurants.

A Weekend to Remember in Fælledparken

Pokémon GO Fest Copenhagen will take place from June 12 to June 14, 2026. During those three days, Fælledparken will transform into a large-scale celebration of creativity, strategy, and outdoor exploration. While the digital monsters might be the main attraction, it is the human element—connections formed across generations and borders—that will likely define the Copenhagen experience.

As Denmark continues to attract international events, this festival adds to a growing list of global happenings that combine culture, play, and community spirit. It showcases how shared interests can bring people together just as effectively as sports or concerts can.
