Free Fall Activities for Kids in Copenhagen

During the upcoming fall break, teens and kids in Copenhagen will have access to a variety of free activities – including sports, dance, and cultural experiences – as part of the city’s FerieCamp initiative.

Active Fall Break for Kids in Copenhagen

With fall break just around the corner, the City of Copenhagen is once again launching its popular FerieCamp program, offering a range of free cultural and athletic experiences for children and teens across the city. Running throughout the week-long school holiday, FerieCamp events are open to youth between the ages of 3 and 17 and are designed to foster physical activity, creativity, and social engagement. Families enjoy it every year.

Ten separate FerieCamp events will be organized for kids in Copenhagen during the fall break, along with a special “Girls Only” camp, providing safe and inclusive spaces for all. With no registration required for most activities, the program remains readily accessible to all families, regardless of income or prior experience. The city invites all families.

Focus on Street Sports and Urban Culture

This season’s FerieCamp will place a strong emphasis on street sports and urban culture, continuing the momentum gained during this summer’s successful Copenhagen Street Days festival. Participants can try their hands at basketball, parkour, panna football (a fast-paced street soccer game), and even get creative with street art workshops.

In addition to promoting physical well-being, the events are designed to encourage teamwork, self-confidence, and neighborhood engagement. These activities take place in public spaces and neighborhood centers, integrating play and learning in accessible and familiar environments across the city’s districts.

Dance for All Ages at Dansekapellet

The Dansekapellet cultural center in Bispebjerg offers one of the most comprehensive programs during FerieCamp, presenting dance opportunities for families and children of all ages. Highlights include family dance sessions, MGP (Melodi Grand Prix) dance for young enthusiasts, breakdance, and high-energy K-pop classes.

The Dansekapellet programming aims to introduce dance in a non-competitive, playful setting, encouraging kids from all backgrounds to explore the art form. Over the years, many participants have transitioned from casual attendance at FerieCamp to becoming active members of local dance clubs, helping to build long-term engagement in the city’s cultural life.

Beyond Sports: Theater and Creativity

FerieCamp also goes beyond athletics and performance. It incorporates a wide range of creative and cultural activities for children looking to explore new interests. This fall, the camp partners with cultural institutions such as Teatermagi and Postyrium to offer workshops and performances that stimulate the imagination and broaden cultural horizons.

Kids in Copenhagen will have the opportunity to participate in interactive theater performances, learn stagecraft, and engage with visual art installations during these sessions. More than 100 performances and workshops will be held as part of the Teatermagi partnership alone, adding depth to an already diverse FerieCamp lineup.

Supporting an Engaged and Active City

FerieCamp plays a central role in Copenhagen’s broader efforts to build an active, inclusive, and culturally engaged city. The initiative aligns with the city’s strategic goals of providing equitable access to enrichment opportunities for all youth, regardless of socioeconomic background.

In the 2025 budget, Copenhagen allocated 10 million DKK (approximately $1.45 million) to prioritize cultural engagement for children and teens, further expanding efforts like FerieCamp. According to city officials, experiences such as these not only stimulate healthy lifestyles but also contribute to stronger communities by fostering connections among young people from different neighborhoods and backgrounds.

How to Join

FerieCamp activities are offered during all five major school holidays in Denmark and are free of charge. Most activities do not require advance registration, although some specialized workshops may ask participants to sign up in advance. Families can browse the full schedule and location map, updated each season, on the official FerieCamp website.

Whether a child is trying basketball for the first time, picking up a paintbrush, or stepping into a K-pop dance room, FerieCamp continues to open doors to new interests and friendships, all while helping kids in Copenhagen thrive during their time off from school.
