Maersk doubles profit to .3bn, lifts 2026 outlook

A.P. Møller-Mærsk more than doubled its second-quarter profit to $1.3 billion and raised its outlook for the full year 2026. The Danish shipping group presented the results on the morning of August 13.

The Copenhagen-based company reported a quarterly profit equivalent to about 8.5 billion kroner, DR reports, citing Ritzau. Revenue reached almost $15.8 billion in the quarter, up 20 percent from the same period last year.

Maersk said it now expects a full-year 2026 profit in the double-digit billions of kroner. The company linked the improved result partly to the marked increase in revenue during the quarter. The accounts were published before the market opened on Thursday.

Chief executive Vincent Clerc said the second quarter was further proof that Maersk is operating in a new reality marked by significantly higher volatility. Per Clerc, the company’s global teams seized opportunities in difficult markets. He credited that with growth in both volume and earnings across the businesses.

How other outlets covered the results

Reuters reported that Maersk raised its full-year guidance after the quarter beat expectations. According to Reuters, the company pointed to stronger container demand and shipping disruption as drivers of the result.

The BBC said the better-than-expected quarter reflected a rebound in trade volumes. As noted by the BBC, the company lifted its forecast for the year on the back of that recovery.

The Local Denmark also reported the earnings jump and the improved outlook. The outlet framed the figures as a sign of continuing resilience in global shipping.

Maersk’s own results release is the primary official source for the profit, revenue, and guidance figures. In the company statement, Clerc’s comments on volatility and on volume and earnings growth appear alongside the numbers.

Why the announcement came now

The figures were published as part of Maersk’s scheduled second-quarter reporting. The company used the same release to upgrade its expectations for the year, as reported by Reuters.

Maersk is one of Denmark’s largest companies and one of the world’s biggest container shipping and logistics operators. Its quarterly reports are closely watched as an indicator of global trade flows. The full-year 2026 accounts will be published later.

DR noted that its report was being updated after the accounts were presented. The $1.3 billion quarterly profit and the 20 percent revenue increase were the headline figures in the release. No revised guidance range in dollars was given in the reporting cited here.
