Three men were remanded in custody at the Court in Holbæk on Monday over Sunday’s shooting in the Grønneparken housing area. Three men were hit by gunfire, and all three suspects deny attempted murder.
DR reports that a judge at the Court in Holbæk ordered the three men into pretrial detention on August 10. The men are aged 22, 23 and 35, and the decision was made out of regard for the police investigation.
The shooting took place Sunday at the playground by the public housing area Grønneparken in Holbæk, formerly known as Vangkvarteret. Vice police inspector Lars Krogsgaard of Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi told DR that the investigation is continuing at full speed. According to him, there are still loose ends in the case.
The charge states that the three men acted together, and that the 23-year-old stepped out of a car and fired shots, per Ritzau as cited by DR. The 23-year-old is held until September 1, while the other two are detained for eight days.
All three men who were hit by gunfire have been out of life-threatening danger since Sunday, according to DR. Senior prosecutor Andreas Dahl said the case is especially serious because the shots were fired in a public space. As stated by Dahl, such shootings endanger bystanders as well as the intended targets and create insecurity.
Police say the motive has not yet been clarified. Krogsgaard described it as some form of disagreement in a criminal environment around housing areas in Holbæk. He added that police currently have no one else in their sights, but could not rule out further suspects.
SVT Nyheter also reported that Danish police believe the shooting stemmed from a conflict in a criminal environment. The Swedish broadcaster noted that three men were hit and that all of them were out of danger.
Resident gave first aid
Gitte Brink, who lives in Grønneparken, told DR she was sitting in her apartment when she heard a shot. She ran onto her balcony, heard two more shots, and heard someone shouting that the police were being called.
Brink said she grabbed her clothes, her keys and a Falck first aid kit and ran downstairs. There she found two men who had been shot near the playground, and she applied a tourniquet to one who was bleeding heavily.
The mayor of Holbæk Municipality, Christina Krzyrosiak Hansen (S), said she is very angry about the insecurity the shooting has created for residents. She said people from the area have contacted her to say they are frightened and angry, and that the municipality will not accept such incidents.
Police are urging residents in the area to carry on as usual and to contact officers if they are worried. Krogsgaard said a larger local police effort is in place in the neighborhood, with officers present on Monday. The mayor praised the police work and the detention of the three suspects.
