Three men have been arrested after three people were shot in the Agervang housing area in Holbæk on Sunday afternoon. Police say they believe the shooting stemmed from an internal dispute in the criminal milieu, but the motive is still unclear.
DR reports that Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi arrested a third suspect on Monday morning at an address in Holbæk. Two other men were detained on Sunday after leaving the scene in a white car.
According to police, a 23-year-old man is charged with attempted murder, while a 22-year-old is charged with aiding attempted murder. The third man, aged 35, is suspected of playing a smaller role in the incident. All three were expected before a judge for a preliminary hearing later on Monday.
Three people were hit by gunfire during the episode. Two of them remained hospitalized on Monday, but were out of life-threatening danger, said Lars Krogsgaard, vice police inspector at Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi. He described the events as still serious, noting that the victims were hit in the body.
In a statement, Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi said the shooting took place at around 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, August 9. Police have previously said that the three people who were shot also have ties to the criminal milieu.
Investigators believe the shooting grew out of internal disagreements within that environment. Police say they have not yet established what those disagreements were about. The motive therefore remains unconfirmed.
Because the shooting happened in broad daylight in a residential area with extensive camera coverage, police say they have a large amount of video material to collect. Officers have also gathered numerous eyewitness accounts as part of the investigation. Krogsgaard said the investigation is progressing well and that police have certain advantages in the case.
Officers stay visible in the neighborhood
Police continue to ask anyone who saw or heard something on Sunday to come forward. On Politi Update, the force said neighborhood officers would be visibly present in the Grønneparken housing area in the coming period. The officers will be walking and cycling through the area, according to the police statement.
Other outlets covered the earlier stages of the case. TV 2, in its live coverage on Sunday, reported that police were still searching for the perpetrators at that point. TV 2 added that officers were deployed in several parts of the city, and that the suspects were believed to have fled Agervang in a white car.
Ekstra Bladet reported a heavy police and ambulance presence in Holbæk on Sunday, and said several people had been hit by gunfire. Its reporting described the immediate emergency response at the scene, before the arrests were announced.
Similar cases elsewhere in Denmark, including a shooting in Aalborg, have also involved police investigations into conflicts in the criminal milieu.
