Denmark’s inflation fell to 1.7 percent in July 2026, down from 1.9 percent in June, according to new figures from Statistics Denmark. Economists said the decline came despite the war in Iran and pressure on global oil markets.
The figures were published on Monday, August 10. DR reports that the softer reading surprised economists, given the strain on the world oil market.
According to Statistics Denmark, the overall consumer price index rose 1.7 percent in July compared with the same month a year earlier. In June, the corresponding increase was 1.9 percent. The agency uses the monthly year on year change in the index as its main measure of inflation.
Tore Stramer, chief economist at Dansk Erhverv, described the numbers as surprising reading. In an analysis, he said the continued stable inflation shows that price pressure in the Danish economy is under control, despite the large uncertainty outside the country’s borders. He added that the ongoing green transition has made Denmark more robust to large swings in oil prices.
Food products were the main factor pulling the index down. Brian Friis Helmer, private economist at Sydbank, said dairy products such as butter, milk and cheese have fallen in price by around 10 percent. Meat and sugar have also become cheaper, per his analysis, which means smaller bills at the checkout.
BT reported the same July figure of 1.7 percent. The outlet added that Statistics Denmark pointed to lower food prices as a key reason for the decline.

Industry described as less exposed
Erik Bjørsted, chief economist at Dansk Metal, said part of the explanation lies with Danish companies. As noted by Bjørsted, Danish industrial firms are among the most energy efficient in the world. That makes them less vulnerable to high energy prices than companies in many other countries.
He said Danish industry is performing well despite the uncertainty in the world economy. According to his analysis, the energy efficiency helps support both production and employment in Denmark.
The release followed the regular schedule for the series. Statistics Denmark’s calendar of planned publications listed the consumer price index for July 2026 for release on August 10 at 08:00.
Stramer also issued a warning about the months ahead. He said a renewed escalation of the Iran war could mean more inflation in the future. As things stand now, he leans toward inflation developing stably over the coming months, absent a new sharp escalation of the conflict.
