Folkely Festival in North Zealand is offering 20,000 kroner to one person who can spend three days at the event undercover as a secret guest without being unmasked.
DR reports that the festival is recruiting for the unusual role ahead of this year’s event. Folkely Festival takes place from August 20 to 22, and the application deadline for the job is Friday, August 14.
The job description is simple. According to DR, the secret guest must attend for three days, behave like an ordinary festivalgoer, and make sure no one discovers that the person is employed for the task. Festival leader Mark Rydahl said the guest should go undercover for the whole weekend while taking part in the festivities.
Rydahl also described what the organizers are looking for among the applicants. As reported by DR, he said the most important criterion is that the person is social and does not hide away from other guests. The organizers are also looking for someone who is good at keeping a secret.
Ekstra Bladet adds that applicants must be at least 18 years old and able to attend all three days. Per the same outlet, the selected person receives two full festival passes, 5,000 kroner to spend at the festival, and paid transport or accommodation. That comes in addition to the 20,000 kroner fee for staying anonymous.
Ekstra Bladet also notes that applicants must be prepared for long and social festival days, with the reveal taking place on the final day. The festival expects about 8,000 guests per day this year, according to DR. Organizers say they have already received around 1,000 applications for the role.
Rydahl told DR that the aim is to create a sense of community by giving all guests something in common to talk about. He said the organizers hope the hunt for the secret guest becomes the main topic of conversation at this year’s event. Asked whether such a concept is necessary to get people talking, he said it probably is not, but that the festival needs to do something no one else does.
How the reveal works
If the secret guest is exposed during the weekend, the 20,000 kroner will instead go to a local association in North Zealand, DR reports. Guests can submit their guesses to the organizers online while the festival is running.
On the final day, five people are scheduled to appear on the main stage. The audience will then vote on who they believe is the secret guest, according to DR. Most jobs at Danish festivals involve cleaning toilets, serving draft beer, or working as security staff.
