All columns and roof trusses are now in place at Aarhus’ new stadium, and a topping-out ceremony was held at the site on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
DR reports that the structural frame of the new stadium in Aarhus is now complete. The milestone was marked with a so-called rejsegilde for the tradespeople and the many others involved in the project.
The stadium, located in Kongelunden, is set to become the future home ground of Superliga club AGF. According to DR, the project has been hit several times by delays, as well as budget overruns.
Two workers on the site, Lars Kring and Preben Andersen, told DR that the celebration comes later than a normal topping-out ceremony, because the roof is already on. As described by Andersen, all finishing work remains, including concrete finish, gutters and the interior of the stands.
Opening planned for spring 2027
DR reports that the new stadium is planned to be finished by March 2027, despite the delays and the remaining work. AGF states on its own website that the venue is expected to be inaugurated and taken into use in April 2027, as cited by DR.
That leaves a tight schedule for the remaining construction phase. DR notes that the venue is intended for both Superliga football and large concerts, formats the city has not previously been able to host in comparable facilities.

Beyond AGF’s home matches, DBU has already committed the stadium to two Denmark national-team matches, according to DR’s reporting. No dates for those fixtures were given.
TV 2 Østjylland has previously reported that A. Enggaard A/S was selected as main contractor for the new Superliga stadium in Aarhus. That reporting concerns the contracting arrangements rather than Wednesday’s milestone.
AGF has been updating supporters on the build as work progressed. In August 2025, the club invited fans to an open construction site event at the stadium, according to its own website.
The immediate reason for the ceremony is the completion of the columns and roof trusses, as reported by DR. Both Kring and Andersen said they see the work as unusual compared with their normal assignments, since few people get to help build a stadium for the Superliga.
DR’s report does not specify the final construction cost or the size of the budget overruns. Nor does it name a date for the first match at the new ground.
