New accounts from Notitia Networks ApS show that Meta spent fresh millions on its planned Esbjerg data center in 2025, four years after buying the land. The company has still not said when construction might begin.
Avisen Danmark reports that the latest annual accounts from Notitia Networks ApS confirm the project is still active. The company owns the 212-hectare site at Andrup, outside Esbjerg, and handles the development of the data center. Its ultimate parent company is Meta Platforms, Inc., the owner of Facebook and Instagram.
According to the accounts, Notitia Networks continued to incur costs for design, surveys and development of the site during 2025. A total of 3.04 million kroner was added to work in progress that year. That item has now grown to 101.4 million kroner, while land and buildings are booked at 226.7 million kroner.

328 million kroner and no write-down
At the end of the year, the company had booked land, buildings and ongoing investments at a combined 328.1 million kroner. That is around three million kroner more than the year before. No impairment was recorded, even though the company’s accounting principles require tangible assets to be reviewed for signs of value loss.
The accounts do not explain the assessments behind keeping the value unchanged. They also give no indication of when construction could start. Notitia Networks has no employees and functions solely as the vehicle for the Meta project in Esbjerg.
Meta bought just over two million square meters of land at Andrup from Esbjerg Kommune in the autumn of 2021. The price was just under 300 million kroner, and the plan was a data center worth billions. The construction site was packed up as early as the autumn of 2022.
Since then, the site, roughly the size of 300 soccer fields, has stood empty behind about eight kilometers of fencing. JydskeVestkysten reported in August 2025 that Esbjerg Kommune still did not consider the plan abandoned.
Per that reporting, environment and secretariat head Allan Dahl Leiberg said Meta had used the waiting period to work on a new design for the data center. He also pointed to access to sufficient green electricity as the decisive challenge. Meta was effectively queuing at Energinet alongside other large projects in the Esbjerg area, the municipality said.
As noted by JydskeVestkysten in 2025, the municipality, Business Esbjerg and current and potential developers, including Meta, were in ongoing dialogue with Energinet about grid capacity. Demand for power in the Esbjerg area had grown substantially, according to Leiberg, who described electricity as a decisive factor for realizing the projects.
The 2025 accounts leave the central question unanswered. What they do show is that Meta still has more than 328 million kroner tied up in the empty site at Andrup.
