A truck carrying pigs overturned in a roundabout at Tylstrup north of Aalborg on Monday morning, trapping the driver in his cab and letting several animals loose on the road.
The accident happened late Monday morning, August 24, 2026, at a roundabout close to the E39 motorway. Avisen Danmark, citing Ritzau, reports that police, an ambulance and the regional fire and rescue service Nordjyllands Beredskab were sent to the scene.
Nordjyllands Beredskab announced the crash on the social platform X. According to the service, the initial alert concerned freeing a driver who was trapped in the cab, as well as a few loose pigs.
Nordjyllands Beredskab was present with four vehicles and nine personnel, as reported by TV2 Nord and relayed by Avisen Danmark. The same broadcaster reported that the driver was freed from the cab. His condition was still unknown shortly after the rescue.
The crash site was cordoned off while crews worked. Per the Danish Road Directorate’s traffic map, cited by Avisen Danmark, the closure was expected to last until 12:30 on Monday.
Live animals on the road
Ekstra Bladet reports that the closed roundabout is located on Lundeborgvej by the E39. The outlet describes live pigs both on the road and still inside the overturned vehicle.
Ekstra Bladet, citing Nordjyllands Beredskab and TV2 Nord, adds that a veterinarian was called to the site to handle the animals. The same report confirms that the driver was initially trapped and later freed, with his condition unknown.
The story was also carried by Berlingske, based on the same Ritzau dispatch. Berlingske’s account confirms the location, the trapped driver, the police and ambulance response and the expected reopening time.
Coverage of the incident followed the public alert posted by Nordjyllands Beredskab on X. The post about the overturned transport, the trapped driver and the loose pigs was then picked up by TV2 Nord, Avisen Danmark and Berlingske.
Several basic details remain unreported. None of the outlets have stated how many pigs were on board the truck, or whether any of the animals were injured. The cause of the overturning has also not been reported.
Police had not publicly commented on the circumstances of the crash in the available coverage. All three outlets agree on the sequence of events at the roundabout, from the initial alert to the driver being freed.
