Christmas in Denmark: Millions of Wishes Already Made

Although there are still 50 days until Christmas in Denmark, Danes are already filling up their digital wish lists in record numbers. In just one month, nearly 10 million individual gift wishes have been registered in Denmark alone.

Holiday Spirit Hits Early with Christmas in Denmark

Christmas in Denmark may be weeks away, but the holiday preparations are already in full swing, at least online. The hugely popular Danish digital gifting platform Ønskeskyen has tracked a surge in Christmas wish list activity this November. In the past month, the platform registered 304,091 new wish lists in Denmark alone, capturing a total of 9.78 million individual gift wishes. Ønskeskyen currently holds a user base of 3.5 million in Denmark and is the sixth most downloaded app in the Danish App Store. The numbers show a strong online gift trend in Denmark.

What Danes Want Most in 2025

According to platform data, gift preferences differ by age and gender, but a few trends are clear. Danish girls under 18 are adding jewelry like rings and earrings to their lists, while boys are leaning toward fashionable streetwear. Among adult women in Denmark, hair care products, especially premium brands like Kérastase, are trending. Danish men, on the other hand, are asking for luxury fragrances.

Even young Danish boys, who have historically leaned toward gaming and gadgets, are now showing more interest in fashion, echoing a broader trend toward personal style and self-care.

Scandinavia and Beyond: Cross-Border Gifting Trends

While Danes appear to be gifting themselves comfort and style this season, their Scandinavian neighbors show slightly different priorities. In Norway, wish lists from boys and men feature more gaming items, while girls and women focus on cosmetics and beauty products.

Swedes stand out with distinctly aesthetic and practical preferences. Swedish women are requesting home décor items as top gifts, whereas Swedish men often include Nike sports socks on their lists, apparently turning practicality into a fashion statement.

Global Comparison: How the US and UK Stack Up

In the US and UK, where Ønskeskyen operates under the name GoWish and has amassed nearly 6.9 million users, the preferences differ strikingly from the Nordic trend of comfort and pampering. Instead, American and British teens and adults prioritize tech and fashion basics.

Teen boys are asking for hoodies and sweatshirts, while girls have embraced a nostalgia-driven trend: 1990s-style point-and-shoot digital cameras. Adult men predominantly want AirPods, while home goods top the list for women, with fluffy throw blankets ranking particularly high.

Denmark’s Unique Gifting Mindset

Compared to its Nordic neighbors, Denmark’s gift wish lists reveal a stronger emphasis on self-indulgence and comfort. Gifting here mirrors everyday life aspirations, focusing on feeling good and looking good. This is in contrast to Norway’s more practical male wish lists and Sweden’s design-centric orientation.

The gift choices reflect a national tendency to prioritize well-being through lifestyle items. Jewelry, hair care, and high-end cosmetics are not just gifts, they’re tools for self-expression and comfort in daily Danish life.

The Rise of Social Shopping

Since its launch in 2015 by PostNord, Ønskeskyen has evolved into a privately owned tech company developing social shopping experiences globally. With over 12 million wish lists created across international markets, the company is positioned as Denmark’s leading digital gifting platform and a rapidly growing phenomenon abroad.

Its global brand, GoWish, is actively expanding in markets like the US and UK. This growth is driven by Gen Z and Millennial engagement who view wish lists not just as holiday planning tools but as a form of social engagement and personal expression.

A Peek Into the Future of Gifting

From Denmark’s comfort-centric wish lists to the gear-heavy preferences in the UK and US, the data from Ønskeskyen offers a unique snapshot of holiday culture across borders. It also provides families and friends with early insight into what their loved ones may appreciate for Christmas in Denmark this year.

This early-season surge in wish list activity also hints at a broader shift in consumer behavior. More than ever, people are planning for Christmas in Denmark, curating digital wish lists as lifestyle statements that bridge the gap between utility, style, and indulgence.

With such insights available, Ønskeskyen and its global counterpart GoWish are changing the way people exchange gifts, making it easier, smarter, and more aligned with personal tastes and trends.
