The horror comedy series “Widow’s Bay” won 14 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, the most ever taken by a comedy series in a single Emmy season.
The 2026 Emmy Awards were handed out overnight in Los Angeles, DR reports. With 14 statuettes, “Widow’s Bay” broke the record for the most awarded comedy series at a single Emmy show. The series had been nominated in 19 categories, according to Ritzau.
Among its wins were best comedy series, best directing for a comedy series and best writing for a comedy series. Welsh actor Matthew Rhys also won best lead actor in a comedy series. He plays the leader of an isolated island community in New England.
The series is set in the fictional town of Widow’s Bay, which appears to be haunted. The plot follows a string of supernatural accidents in the town.
A record spread over two ceremonies
Reuters reports that the 14 wins include awards from the Creative Arts Emmys, held earlier in September. The record was finalized when those technical and creative wins were combined with the prizes from the main telecast. The main ceremony took place on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The previous single-season comedy record was 13 wins, set by the Apple TV series “The Studio” in 2025. The Associated Press also reported that “Widow’s Bay” had passed that mark with its 14 awards.
According to the Associated Press, Stephen Root won best supporting actor in a comedy series for the show. Kate O’Flynn won best supporting actress in a comedy series. The BBC noted that Rhys made history on the same night as the series reached 14 awards.

The award for best drama series went to “The Pitt”, DR reports. The series was created by some of the people behind “ER”, which ran from 1994 to 2009. Expectations for the show had been high before the ceremony.
“The Pitt” is set in a hospital emergency department. Noah Wyle plays the lead role of physician Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, and he won the Emmy for best lead actor in a drama series. The award was handed out during the night to Tuesday.
Like “Widow’s Bay”, “The Pitt” had been nominated in 19 categories. It ended the night with five awards, according to DR.
