Magasin data breach: employee records leaked Oct 18

Magasin says confidential information about current and former employees was compromised after unauthorized access to its IT systems on October 18, 2026. The company says there are no signs that customer data was leaked.

The Danish department store chain confirmed the employee data leak in a press release on November 3, 2026. DR reports that both current and former staff had confidential information compromised after outsiders gained access to the systems.

Magasin states in its press release distributed by Ritzau that it has contacted the people affected. Those individuals have been offered advice and guidance. The company has not said how many employees were involved.

What other Danish outlets report

Politiken reports that Magasin has now clarified which employee information was compromised. According to the newspaper, chief executive Peter Fabricius said his own information was among the data affected. Politiken also reports there are no signs that customer data was leaked.

TV 2 Kosmopol reports that the investigation into the breach found access to confidential information about current and former employees. Per the broadcaster, Magasin discovered the incident on October 18, 2026. The retailer first informed the public about a security breach in some of its IT systems in late October.

At that stage, Magasin warned customers about a possible breach. According to Ekstra Bladet, that initial statement said unauthorized actors had encrypted parts of the company’s systems. The newspaper reports Magasin said customer-club data might have been exposed, while payment-card data was not affected.

Magasin says the work to establish how the unauthorized access happened in the first place is continuing. Neither DR nor the company’s press release gives a timeline for that investigation. No information has been published about who was behind the access.

What the Magasin breach means for foreign employees in Denmark

Magasin operates department stores in Copenhagen and other Danish cities, and retail work is a common first job for many internationals. Former employees are included in the group whose data was compromised, according to DR, so people who have since left the company may also be affected. Magasin says it has already notified those concerned and offered them advice and guidance.

Danish employers hold personal data on staff and are covered by EU and Danish data protection rules, which require that affected people be informed about serious breaches. Questions about what an employer must do with staff records fall under data protection law and employment law in Denmark. Magasin has not published the categories of information involved, and the company has not stated how many people were affected.

For current and former staff on a foreign passport, the practical point from the reporting is narrow. If you worked at Magasin and your data was compromised, the company says it has contacted you directly. Internationals who no longer have a Danish address or phone number on file may want to check that their old employer can reach them.

For customers, including Magasin’s customer club members, the company’s position as of November 3, 2026 is that there are no signs of a leak or loss of customer data. Ekstra Bladet reports that the earlier statement said payment-card information was not affected. What is not yet known is how the unauthorized access occurred, and whether the investigation will change that assessment.
