The fire broke out on the evening of August 25 in an apartment building on Hanebred in the Vanløse district of Copenhagen. Avisen Danmark, citing the Ritzau news agency, reports that several apartments were evacuated and that two people sustained minor injuries.
Duty officer Nicolai Ullits of Copenhagen Police stated that four apartments were damaged in the fire and are now uninhabitable. According to his account, the residents of those four apartments have been rehoused. Police said the cause of the fire is still unknown.
Traffic and bus routes affected
Residents in the area were asked to keep their windows and doors closed while firefighting was under way. TV 2 Nyheder adds that the advice was issued because of smoke from the building.
Roads were closed at Jydeholmen and Ålekistevej during the emergency response, and motorists had to use alternative routes. Bus routes in the area were also diverted, TV 2 Nyheder reports.
Shortly after midnight, in the night to Wednesday, police and the fire service left the scene after the flames had been put out.
