Two of Dansk Folkeparti’s three members of Tønder Municipal Council have left the party and will continue as independents.
Allan Svendsen and Pernille Mai Brylle have both resigned their membership of Dansk Folkeparti, DR reports. Both were elected for the party at the 2025 municipal election and now sit on the council in Tønder as independents.
In a text message to DR, Svendsen said the situation came down to a choice between his principles and the party. He added that he needs to be able to trust that matters are discussed openly and that important information is not withheld. He declined an interview and did not describe the dispute.
Brylle did not respond to DR’s request for comment. According to TV Syd, she announced her departure in a Facebook post, calling it a difficult decision without giving a specific reason.
The two resignations reduce Dansk Folkeparti’s presence on the council from three seats to one. As reported by B.T., Mads-Magnus Damm is now the party’s only remaining member of Tønder Municipal Council.
Party leadership calls the departures disappointing
Kenneth Kristensen Berth, secretariat and organisational chief at Dansk Folkeparti, told DR that the case concerns a non-political matter between one member and the party. He did not elaborate on what the dispute involves.

Kristensen Berth described it as disappointing that the two politicians resigned from the party while keeping their council seats. He said voters who backed Dansk Folkeparti are left with only one representative, and that handing the seats to the party’s substitutes would have been the right step.
The local party chair in Tønder, Karin Lildballe, said she does not yet know much about the background. She stated that the problem does not lie with the local branch itself.
Lildballe called the resignations a significant loss for Dansk Folkeparti in Tønder and said she is very sorry about them. At the same time, she said she has full understanding for the decision taken by the two politicians.
TV Syd reports that the local chair likewise pointed to a cause outside the local organization. The broadcaster also cites Svendsen’s references to principles, openness and honesty as the basis for his exit.
The two departures came during the weekend of Dansk Folkeparti’s annual party conference in Roskilde. Neither the national leadership nor the local branch has given further detail on the underlying conflict.
Both Svendsen and Brylle were elected less than a year ago, in the November 2025 municipal elections. They remain members of Tønder Municipal Council as independents.
