A 16-year-old boy has died after being stabbed several times in Roskilde on Friday evening. Another 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with homicide.
DR reports that the boy was stabbed early in the evening near Louisevej, not far from Folkeparken in Roskilde. Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi received the report at 17:33 on Friday, August 14. He was flown to Rigshospitalet, but his life could not be saved, police said.
Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy and charged him with homicide, or drab, in the case. According to DR, the suspect was to be brought before a court on Saturday for a preliminary custody hearing, known as a grundlovsforhør. Politiken reports that the death was confirmed in a press release from Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi on Saturday.
Officers have been present in large numbers around Louisevej since the report came in. Police cordoned off an area stretching from Dronning Margrethes Vej to Louisevej in Folkeparken. Deputy police inspector Michael Sehested of Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi said a party linked to the start of the school year at the local gymnasiums was taking place in the area.
Dagbladet Roskilde reported that a so-called puttefest, an introduction party for new first-year gymnasium students, was being held in the area. Per TV2, police say the motive is not yet known. Officers told TV2 they are aware of the gathering, but cannot say whether the party and the stabbing are connected.
Police appeal to young witnesses
Investigators want to speak with young people who may have seen something around the stabbing. Sehested said that many of those present near the scene were young, and encouraged them to talk about what they saw with their parents or other trusted adults. Police also referred people to the victim counseling service on telephone 21209170.
Volunteers from Natteravnene in Roskilde walked through Folkeparken after the incident to speak with young people in the area. As reported by Dagbladet Roskilde, local chair Klaus Walmod said the volunteers were talking with the young people as usual, but with a focus on what had happened.
Ekstra Bladet reports that the victim was flown by helicopter to Rigshospitalet in critical condition on Friday evening and later died. The outlet also notes that many young people were witnesses to the events in Folkeparken. Earlier on Friday, before his death was confirmed, police had described the 16-year-old as being in serious condition, according to TV2.
The stabbing happened close to Folkeparken, a park in central Roskilde. Police have not released further information about the victim or the arrested suspect, both of whom are 16 years old.
