A 17-year-old boy from the Børkop area faces trial on Friday, charged with reckless driving after police say he drove a small Suzuki Alto onto a cycle path used by a group of girls in Gauerslund.
The charges relate to the evening of Wednesday, June 10, 2026, on Fælleshåbsvej in Gauerslund, in eastern Jutland. The indictment was obtained through a freedom of information request by Vejle Amts Folkeblad ahead of the trial, Avisen Danmark reports.
The episode took place around 8:30 p.m. on a stretch of road where both Fælleshåbsskolen, a public school, and Gauerslund Idrætscenter are located. According to the newspaper, videos it has since obtained show the grey Suzuki Alto crossing the grass verge and driving onto the cycle path.
Police say a group of girls walking on the path had to jump aside to avoid being hit by the car. Sydøstjyllands Politi has previously stated that the girls were between 12 and 14 years old. Whether any of them will testify in court is not known to the newspaper.
The indictment states that the teenager, by gross recklessness or in a similarly inconsiderate manner, caused imminent danger to life or limb. Per the same reporting, he is also charged with driving against the direction of traffic that evening. Police say he sprayed the girls with water pistols and threw various objects at them while driving.
Escort requirement and possible penalties
The 17-year-old is additionally charged with driving without an approved accompanying driver. Under Danish law, a driver of his age may not sit behind the wheel without such an escort between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. He had only recently obtained his license, the newspaper notes.
The case is being prosecuted under Denmark’s vanvidskørsel provisions, which cover the most serious traffic offenses. As reported by Avisen Danmark, the teenager risks a fine, a prison sentence, confiscation of the car he was driving, and the loss of his license. Rules for young drivers have been a recurring subject of Danish traffic policy in recent years.
The vehicle was seized on the same evening as the incident, when the 17-year-old was also briefly arrested. The newspaper states that it does not know whether the car belongs to him or to his parents.
The trial is scheduled at Retten i Kolding on Friday, August 14, where a verdict is expected the same day, according to the paper’s account of the court schedule. Avisen Danmark has previously reported on the episode itself, before the indictment was issued.
