Danish author Stine Pilgaard has told DR how she plans to spend her weekend in the Copenhagen suburb Husum, with Belgian waffles, Pink Floyd and reality dating shows on the list.
The interview was published on September 19, 2026, as part of the weekend recommendations series on DR. In it, Pilgaard lists what she plans to eat, read, listen to, stream and drink. She also names the hype she does not understand, which in her case is water.
Pilgaard told DR she will probably cycle to Damhussøen with her children. The lake is home to Café Damhuskanten, which she says serves the best Belgian waffles in the city. She described the habit as a dependency that has escalated since she stopped smoking.
The author said she is rereading the novel “Bristefærdig” by Cecilie Lind, a book she returns to often. For music, she picked Pink Floyd’s album “Wish You Were Here”, played loudly and only when she is home alone. Her favorite track is “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”, parts I and II.
On Friday she plans to watch the new episode of the DR reality series “Gift ved første blik” with her partner. She told DR that she and her partner discuss the participants the way others discuss relatives. She added that Danish dating culture has shifted from bars, beer and table football toward ceramics and porcelain painting.
Pilgaard also said she has gradually replaced water with Pepsi Max over several years, and that she is now trying to stop. She pours the soda into a large cup at dinner so her children believe it is coffee. Her partner, she said, repeatedly recommends a glass of water instead.
New novel and reviews
Pilgaard is currently out with the novel “Ti vilde heste”, which satirizes families with small children in the suburbs. According to DR, she and her family have themselves moved to Husum after several years in Velling in West Jutland. Her 2020 book “Meter i sekundet” dealt with the opposite move, from Copenhagen to the countryside.
Politiken reviewed the new novel and called it the funniest Danish book written in this century, awarding it five out of six hearts. The magazine describes a family that has moved from Jutland back to Copenhagen, with a cargo bike, two children and the suburb’s playgrounds as recurring settings.
DR notes that Pilgaard was born in Aarhus in 1984 and graduated from Forfatterskolen in 2010. Her breakthrough with “Meter i sekundet” placed her within a wider trend in Danish literature of writing about moving from the city to the country.
