Russia warns UK over drones used by Ukraine

Russia’s embassy in London has warned that Britain will pay a price for supplying drones used by Ukraine in strikes inside Russia. The British Ministry of Defence says it continues to stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine.

DR reports that Russia has directed a sharp warning at the United Kingdom. The trigger is the use of British-made drones by Ukraine against targets far inside Russian territory. The warning was issued in a statement from the Russian embassy in London.

In the statement, Russia accuses Britain of deliberately escalating the war. The embassy also says London shares responsibility for the Ukrainian attacks, and that its actions will carry consequences. According to BBC News, the embassy described the UK as an accomplice and co-perpetrator.

Britain rejects the Russian criticism. The Ministry of Defence told BBC News that the country stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine. A spokesperson added that Russia should be in no doubt about the government’s resolve against Russian aggression in Ukraine and against the UK and its allies.

The drones in question were built by two different British companies, according to DR. They have been used against military and industrial targets inside Russia, including refineries and warehouses belonging to the Russian online retailer Wildberries. BBC News reports that a military source confirmed that UK-made drones have struck targets inside Russia.

Large drone barrages on both sides

On the night into Sunday, Ukraine sent around 600 drones toward Moscow, according to the governor of the Moscow region, cited by BBC News. Seven people were reported killed across Russia. Russian attacks on Ukraine the same night killed at least seven people and wounded more than 39.

The Guardian reports that Russia’s defense ministry said 822 drones were destroyed overnight. The newspaper links the embassy’s rhetoric to this surge in drone attacks, which it describes as among the largest of the war.

A Russian missile attack has also killed at least 10 people in the Kharkiv region, according to the region’s governor. Eight people were injured in the attack. That was reported by the news agency Reuters, per DR.

In April 2026, the British Ministry of Defence announced that it would deliver tens of thousands of drones to Ukraine. The package, described at the time as the country’s largest drone package to date, also includes long-range attack drones.

Why the warning came now

BBC News reports that the embassy’s warning followed recent media reports, notably by The Sunday Times, that drones from two British companies were used in long-range deep strikes inside Russia. Pajhwok, citing Sky News and The Times, reports that such drones have been used for about six months against Russian oil refineries.
