Rockstar Games will premiere its first extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI on Netflix on August 27, ahead of the game’s release on November 19, 2026.
DR reports that the countdown to the next Grand Theft Auto game is now fully underway. Earlier this month, Rockstar Games released a short trailer for a longer trailer, which arrives on August 27.
Thomas Bense, founder of the game, film and tech outlet pixel.tv, told DR that the hype around the title is extreme. According to Bense, almost any update from Rockstar, on X or YouTube, sets the entire gaming world in motion.
Netflix gets the footage first
Netflix Tudum announced on August 6 that “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look” premieres for subscribers on Thursday, August 27, at 3 p.m. ET. Netflix describes the arrangement with Rockstar Games as a first-of-its-kind partnership.
As reported by Gizmodo, the exclusivity lasts only six hours. The same video is due on Rockstar’s YouTube channel and the official GTA VI website at 9 p.m. ET the same day. Bense told DR that a company of Netflix’s size paying for a six-hour head start on an advertisement is unprecedented.
He also linked the deal to Netflix wanting to position itself as a player in the gaming community, given its own gaming activities.
Very little is known about the game itself, DR notes. Despite trailers released since 2023, there is no map of the game world and no footage of actual gameplay. Bense described Rockstar’s marketing as deliberately restrained, because the studio knows its products draw attention regardless.
The August 27 date falls inside Gamescom, the world’s largest games trade fair, held from August 26 to 30. DR writes that Rockstar Games is most likely not attending. Per Bense, other studios pay millions of kroner to exhibit while Rockstar takes the attention.
Release date and platforms
Rockstar’s official site lists Grand Theft Auto VI as coming on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A press release distributed through Business Wire on June 24, 2026, put the price at $79.99 and said digital pre-orders can pre-load from November 12.
BBC News notes that pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026, after repeated delays. The Verge reported in November 2025 that Rockstar moved the launch from May 26, 2026, citing the need for more polish. Several outlets, including Forbes, note that no PC release date has been announced.
Bense told DR that expectations have reached a point where the game can almost only disappoint, though he does not expect that to happen.
