Musik i Lejet has encouraged its volunteers to wear festival t-shirts to a public meeting in Gribskov Municipality on Wednesday evening. Local opponents of the festival’s plans for Vejby Camping call the initiative inappropriate.
The meeting starts at 6 p.m. on August 19 and was arranged by Gribskov Municipality. It concerns a possible new local plan for Vejby Camping, the site where Musik i Lejet is held. DR reports that volunteers have been urged to attend wearing festival shirts to signal support and community.
Pernille Tranberg has a summerhouse about 400 meters from Vejby Camping. She is one of the figures behind the group “Nej tak til oplevelsescenter i Vejby”. Per DR, she describes the coordinated shirts as maybe a bit silly and says the point is a serious, factual debate.
Peter Sajith, a volunteer at the festival for eight years, plans to attend in a Musik i Lejet t-shirt. According to DR, he says the intention is not to provoke anyone, and that the shirt symbolizes the volunteers’ sense of community and cohesion.
Festival director Andreas Grauengaard calls the shirts a harmless way to show backing for the festival. As reported by DR, he does not believe a t-shirt makes much difference either way, and he asks both sides to meet with an open mind and look for a middle ground.
The planning process behind the meeting
The site sits close to both year-round residents in Vejby and the summerhouse areas at Vejby Strand. Politicians are due to begin work on the new local plan next week, according to DR. The plan could give the festival room to expand its activities at the camping site.
DR’s regional coverage for the Copenhagen area reports that the meeting will address how the camping area might be used in the future. Neighbors have raised concerns about noise and disturbance if the festival and other events are permitted through the summer. The same report notes a petition against the plans with more than 450 signatures.
The homeowners’ association Grundejerforeningen Gl. Strandbjerggaard has informed residents that the municipality invited the public to the dialogue meeting from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. It states that the new owners want permanent permission for Musik i Lejet and other events, and that no draft local plan has been prepared yet.
Music magazine GAFFA reported in July 2026 that plans to use the site beyond the current three festival days have met local resistance. The expansion has not been approved, and the process is tied to the municipal planning work in Gribskov.
The Facebook group “Nej tak til oplevelsescenter i Vejby” is being used locally to debate both the meeting and the festival’s plans, DR reports.
