Skive College in central Jutland had been full of excitement in 2023 when it received nearly 1.5 million kroner to fund a student exchange project in Kenya. The plan was simple but meaningful: carpentry apprentices would help build a sustainable toilet facility equipped with solar panels and charging stations at a vocational school near Nyandiwa.

However, the collaboration came to an abrupt end. During the project, teachers traveling with the group became uneasy about what they encountered in Kenya. Questions began to surface about whether the partner institution was a legitimate school and how donations brought from Denmark were actually being used.

Eventually, suspicion turned toward one of Skive College’s own employees. The person was suspended after being suspected of misusing public funds but chose to resign before the investigation concluded.

The project’s funding came from Globus, a grant managed under the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs that supports global engagement and educational cooperation. Because of that connection, the Ministry later published the case on its official website.

When the concerns emerged, Skive College immediately alerted its auditor and the Ministry’s legal advisors. The college also informed Globus, which decided to put the collaboration on hold until further notice.
