Denmark’s Smart Security Sales Skyrocket Amid Fears

Sales of smart security devices are rising fast in Denmark as homeowners look for ways to protect their property. Better technology, lower prices, and a growing feeling of insecurity are driving the trend.

Smart Locks and Cameras Lead the Boom

The market for smart home security in Denmark is exploding. At electronics chain Power, products such as smart locks, video doorbells, and alarm systems have seen sales increases of up to 200 percent from 2024 to 2025. Around Christmas, demand spikes even higher, with sales jumping by as much as 300 percent.

The combination of user-friendly technology and more affordable prices has made these products a regular part of Danish homes. Today, many Danes can manage their entire home from a smartphone app, checking the driveway or door with a single tap.

One homeowner, Frank Rosendahl Larsen, has built a fully automated setup that connects his security system to his phone and computer. His system can tell when the family has left the house, activate alarms automatically, and send alerts if a window or door is left open. This do-it-yourself approach lets him save on annual subscription fees compared to traditional alarm companies.

A Rapidly Changing Security Industry

The development is being noticed by SikkerhedsBranchen, the trade organization representing Danish security companies. It reports steady annual growth of 5 to 10 percent for professionally installed systems over the past five years.

According to the organization, part of the increase comes from a general sense of insecurity combined with major improvements in technology. Today, nearly everything in a modern home can be connected to a security setup. Options now include smoke, water, and gas alarms, plus cameras and motion sensors. Homeowners can also install a security insurance plan to back up these systems financially.

As systems become more flexible, users can monitor their homes remotely, track when children return home, and even manage access control from the office.

More People Are Doing It Themselves

Instead of signing up with alarm companies, more Danes are buying smart devices and installing them on their own. Larsen, for example, built his system piece by piece and enjoys improving it over time. He says it is reliable, with months sometimes passing before he needs to adjust anything.

He also points out that the convenience of automation makes everyday life easier. The system handles arming and disarming automatically, saving him time and money each year.

While such self-managed setups require some technical skills, many Danes are now comfortable integrating devices through mobile apps or smart home platforms. The shift reflects a change in how people think about protection and privacy at home.

Police: Teamwork Still Prevents Break-Ins

Police statistics show that burglaries in Denmark dropped to their lowest level during the pandemic in 2024, but incidents have started rising slightly again. As of mid-December, about 15,000 break-ins had been reported across the country.

Authorities still recommend traditional methods for keeping burglars away. They suggest maintaining good relations with neighbors so someone can keep an eye on your home, upgrading to secure doors and locks, and avoiding posts on social media while away. Removing items such as benches or ladders that can help intruders access windows is also encouraged.

Beyond smart devices, many Danes are adding practical layers of safety by combining neighborhood watch habits with improved home security systems. This mix of community and technology forms a more complete defense.

Technology and Safety Going Hand in Hand

As technology becomes an integrated part of daily life, Denmark’s homeowners are blending security, convenience, and innovation. Fully connected systems mean fewer worries and more control. Even though the rise in gadget use partly reflects concern about safety, it also highlights how accessible these tools have become.

Eventually, as prices continue to fall and devices become easier to use, the line between luxury technology and practical necessity may disappear entirely. For now, the Danish security sector expects the demand for smart home protection to grow even stronger in the years ahead.
