DR has published a step by step guide for parents who want to block pornographic websites on their children’s phones and tablets, made with the chair of the Danish Media Council for Children and Young People.
The guide was published on September 4, 2026, by DR. It was produced in collaboration with Miriam Michaelsen, chair of Medierådet for Børn og Unge, the Danish Media Council for Children and Young People.
According to DR, the internet holds a very large number of pornographic sites, and the broadcaster names Pornhub, X-videos, Sexaben and Xhamster as examples. Any child who knows how a browser search function works can find them, DR writes.
As stated in the guide, early exposure to porn can have serious consequences for a child’s understanding of boundaries, the body and sex. DR gives that as the reason for producing the instructions with Michaelsen.
Blocking on Apple devices
For an iPhone or iPad, DR writes that parents must first add the child’s Apple account to their own family group. Content and privacy restrictions must then be switched on before any settings can be managed.
The steps listed are to open Settings, scroll down and tap Screen Time. Parents then tap the child’s name under Family, tap Content and Privacy, and enter the Screen Time passcode if prompted.
From there, the guide points to App Store, Media, Web and Games, followed by Web Content. Two options are available, Limit Adult Websites or Allowed Websites Only.
DR explains that the first option lets parents add specific pornographic sites that the child cannot open. The second option restricts the child to sites the parent has approved.
Blocking on Android devices
For Android devices, the guide points to the Google Family Link app. DR notes that the app can be downloaded on the parent’s own phone, whether it is an iPhone or an Android.
The listed steps are to open Google Family Link, create a Gmail account for the child, and select the child’s profile. Parents then tap Controls, followed by Google Chrome and Web, where specific sites can be blocked under Add a website.
Because the list of pornographic sites is very long, DR points to three broader settings under Google Chrome and Web. They are allow all websites, try to block explicit websites, and allow only approved websites.
The guide carries a caveat from DR that not all phones are the same. The names of functions and buttons can vary depending on the Apple or Android device in use.
