DR premiered its two-part documentary “Alene hjemme med porno” on August 17, 2026, in which young Danes describe encountering hardcore pornography online from as young as eight years old. A new Epinion survey for DR finds that 67 percent of Danes aged 18 to 34 first saw porn before turning 16.
DR reports that several young people in the documentary describe involuntary encounters with pornography during childhood. They appear using first names only, while DR states that it knows their full identities. Max and Nikolaj were both in second grade, while Cecilie was 11.
According to DR, Nikolaj first saw a porn video when a friend’s older sister showed it to him online. Cecilie describes her first boundary-crossing experiences on the now-closed video chat service Omegle. She recounts adult men masturbating on webcam in front of children.
The Epinion survey carried out for DR finds that 27 percent of the 18 to 34 year olds who saw porn before 16 were under 13 at first exposure. DR does not publish the sample size or fieldwork dates for the survey. Cecilie says the videos she watched grew steadily more violent within a few years.
She describes one video in which two men chained and restrained a woman and whipped her until she bled. Looking back at herself as a child, she says it was not something she should have seen. Other participants describe similar escalation over time.
Red Barnet warns about children’s development
The child-rights organization Red Barnet tells DR that early, unwanted exposure to violent pornographic material can affect children’s development. Psychologist Pernille Spitz says such children are pushed forward into a stage of development they are not ready for. She notes that development happens step by step.
Red Barnet’s counselling service TalMedOs has handled 266 cases since it opened, DR reports, with concerns about porn consumption the most frequent issue. Children and young people have described how porn became a fixed part of their daily lives at an early age.
A press release from Red Barnet, distributed via Ritzau in December 2025, stated that the service held 172 counselling conversations during 2025. Per Red Barnet, TalMedOs opened in February 2025 as an anonymous, free service, primarily for young people aged 15 to 18. It is funded by the Social and Housing Ministry through 2026.
Part of a wider DR theme
DR’s corporate communications announced on August 11, 2026, that the broadcaster is launching a cross-platform theme called “Porno uden grænser” from August 17. DR states that internet porn is part of many Danes’ digital lives but is rarely discussed, and that it commissioned a large Epinion survey for the theme.
Presse-fotos.dk adds that “Alene hjemme med porno” premieres on DRTV and DR1 from the same date. Both episodes are available on DRTV. In 2024, DR published an earlier Epinion survey finding that three out of four Danish children aged 9 to 14 had seen disturbing content online.
