Denmark GDP forecast raised to 3.7% for 2026

The Danish government has raised its forecast for economic growth in 2026 to 3.7 percent, according to its newly published Economic Survey.

DR reports that the government’s Økonomisk Redegørelse, released on August 27, 2026, expects Danish gross domestic product to grow 3.7 percent this year. That is a marked upgrade from the government’s May outlook, which projected 2.7 percent growth.

The report was presented by Taxation and Economic Growth Minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt. As reported by TV 2, the minister gave a status update on the Danish economy at a press event the same day. Per DR, Engel-Schmidt described the Danish economy as being in top form.

GDP is one of the central indicators used to measure economic activity. It expresses the value of a country’s total production, minus the value of goods and services used in that production.

The government points to exports of Danish pharmaceutical products as one of the drivers behind the upgrade. DR notes that the launch of a weight-loss pill from Novo Nordisk earlier this year is named specifically in the survey. Politiken also reports that pharmaceutical exports, including Novo Nordisk, are behind the stronger growth picture.

For 2027, the government expects growth to continue, though at a slower pace of 1.8 percent. The survey does not attribute the slowdown to a single factor.

Growth at this level has not translated into sharply higher prices, according to the government’s assessment. Inflation is expected to stay just below 2 percent in both 2026 and 2027. An annual rate of around 2 percent is generally regarded as a sign of a healthy economy.

In practical terms, DR notes that a good costing 100 kroner this year would rise by less than two kroner by 2027. The government links part of the low inflation outlook to energy taxation. The Folketing has cut the electricity tax to the EU minimum of one øre per kilowatt hour in 2026 and 2027.

The survey also states that food prices have fallen 2.1 percent over the past year. That follows several years of comparatively steep increases, according to the report.

DR notes that the Danish economy has continued to expand despite global oil crises and rising interest rates in recent years. The August survey is the government’s second economic projection of 2026, following the May edition.
