Danish electricity prices this summer have been the highest since the 2022 energy crisis, according to figures from the energy company Andel Energi. The company points to geopolitical unrest, including the prolonged closure of the Hormuz Strait, as a main driver.
DR reports that the average electricity price for June, July and August 2026 has stayed consistently above 0.7 kroner per kilowatt-hour. In the summers of 2023 through 2025, the average never rose above that level, according to Andel Energi’s figures.
Josefine Walter, commercial director at Andel Energi, states in the company’s press material that 2026 prices have been markedly higher every single month except February, compared with both 2024 and 2025. The company attributes a large part of the increase to geopolitical unrest.
Hormuz Strait closure feeds into Danish prices
The conflict between Iran and the United States, which began on February 28, 2026, has kept the Hormuz Strait closed for long periods, and it remains closed, according to DR. Around one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas is transported out through the strait.
Denmark produces a substantial share of its power from solar and wind, but electricity is also traded across borders. Per the Danish outlet Faktor, cited by DR, about 20 percent of electricity production in Germany is gas-based, and Denmark trades power with Germany. Higher gas prices therefore push Danish electricity prices upward as well.
TV MIDTVEST reports the same pattern based on Andel Energi’s data, confirming that the June to August averages have remained above 0.7 kroner per kWh. In an earlier story from July 31, 2026, the outlet noted that June was the most expensive summer month since the 2022 crisis, and that July prices dipped slightly but stayed above July 2025 levels.

In a press release dated June 30, 2026, Andel Energi put the June average raw electricity price at about 81.4 øre per kWh. The same release pointed to August 2022, when the monthly average reached 334.6 øre per kWh, as the peak of the energy crisis.
A July 2026 monthly report from Elberegner.dk found July spot prices 23 to 29 percent higher than in July 2025. The report listed average spot prices of 0.76 to 0.77 kroner per kWh and an estimated end-user price of around 1.58 kroner per kWh including taxes.
Andel Energi says a warm and sunny summer helped keep prices from climbing even higher. Walter notes that solar production falls in the autumn as the heating season starts, which the company says could create a serious situation. Andel Energi does not expect increases on the scale of August to October 2022, when prices at times were up to ten times higher than before the crisis.
