Comedian Meets Doppelgänger, Shares Emotional Surprise

Comedian Anders Matthesen meets 24-year-old Emil Eenholt, who became known for perfectly imitating Matthesen’s character Stewart Stardust. Their encounter turns into a touching moment celebrating how humor can inspire courage, identity, and connection.

A Meeting That Touched Hearts

At a small meeting room table in Copenhagen, Danish comedian Anders Matthesen placed a few gifts in front of a visibly moved Emil Eenholt. Among them were Christmas ornaments shaped like Matthesen’s famous sailor character Stewart Stardust, a Ternet Ninja figure, and a gold ring that once belonged to Matthesen himself.

It was a moment neither man would forget. For Eenholt, it was a dream come true. For Matthesen, it was proof that the characters he created more than two decades ago still touch people deeply.

How Stewart Stardust Changed Emil’s Life

Emil Eenholt, 24, from Frederikssund, lives with ADD, autism, and depression. He works a few hours a week at a local packaging company, but his passion lies elsewhere. When he dresses up as Stewart Stardust, he says he feels free—able to speak his mind and express himself in ways he normally wouldn’t.

The sailor outfit, cap, and sturdy vest give him a strange kind of peace. Even more, they let him channel Matthesen’s unapologetic humor. Adopting the character helped him communicate better with others and boosted his self-confidence.

The transformation began after he started cosplaying Stewart at conventions like J-PopCon. There, people praised his spot-on portrayal. What started as a hobby slowly became an important part of his identity.

Anders Matthesen’s Response

When Matthesen first saw a video of Emil performing as his rough-edged sailor character, he said he was both amazed and touched. He appreciated not just the accuracy of the impression but also what it meant for Emil personally.

Instead of sending a comment to the media, Matthesen invited Emil to meet in person. The two spent hours talking about Stewart Stardust’s origins, the mindset behind the character, and the strange power that comes from playing someone so unfiltered.

Matthesen shared stories about how Stewart was created back in 1999 for his show “Fra ende til Anden.” The character later became iconic through the Christmas series “Jul på Vesterbro.” Known for his sharp tongue and rough charm, Stewart personifies carefree rebellion—a man who doesn’t worry what the world thinks.

Interestingly, even Matthesen admits that stepping into Stewart’s mindset allows him to let go of inhibition. As he has explained before, playing the character helps him relax, lower his shoulders, and speak with a boldness that feels liberating. Emil seemed to relate completely.

What Stewart Represents Today

For many Danes, Stewart Stardust is more than a comedy figure. He represents a kind of freedom—a chance to laugh at life’s chaos and not take oneself too seriously. For Emil, that attitude has become a daily reminder to be authentic and not bend to social pressure.

He remembers being bullied as a child for dressing differently. Now, dressed as Stewart, he proudly walks with confidence. As he puts it, the character makes him feel “bigger than he is.”

During their meeting, Matthesen affirmed that embracing a character can teach real-life strength. He said that sometimes imagining what Stewart would do helps him handle rejection or judgment with humor instead of frustration.

Shared Laughter and a Touching Goodbye

Before they parted, Matthesen and Eenholt talked about horror movies, geek culture, and their shared appreciation for the creative process. Then they posed for photos, exchanged a warm hug, and promised to stay in touch.

For Emil, the moment symbolized something larger than fandom. The gold ring Matthesen gave him—once worn on stage while performing as Stewart Stardust—now gleamed on his right hand. It wasn’t expensive, but to him, it was priceless.

When the meeting ended, Emil looked emotional but calm. He said he planned to call his mother that evening to tell her everything. The encounter had given him a sense of belonging and pride—a reminder that comedy, when shared, can transform not only laughter but lives.
