Parents at Nordals Skolen in Nordborg on Als are keeping their children home on Friday after a note threatening bombs was found at the school. Syd- og Sønderjyllands Politi calls the threat very serious, but also an empty one.
A note found at the school contains a threat from an unnamed pupil to detonate several bombs on the premises during Friday, September 11. DR reports that parents were informed about the case on the Aula communication platform around midday Thursday.
In the same message, Syd- og Sønderjyllands Politi urged parents to stay calm. According to DR, the police assess the threat as very serious, but also as an empty threat with no concrete indication of real danger. The investigation is continuing.
Several parents told DR they did not feel reassured by that assessment. Karina Stokbæk Hansen, who has three children at Nordals Skolen, said she collected them and will keep them home Friday. She said she would never be able to forgive herself if the threat turned out to be more than words.
Thomas Christensen, whose daughter Mille attends the school, also picked her up immediately after reading about the threat. He told DR he believes the note is a prank, most likely written by a pupil who did not grasp the consequences, and put the risk of an actual explosion at 0.01 percent. He is keeping his daughter home anyway.
Semran Duljaj, who has two children at the school, hurried there to collect them after seeing the message on Aula. He said he is certain the threat is empty, but that having children at the school still makes him nervous. He indicated they will probably stay home Friday as well.
Police searches and prevention staff
Police are still working to identify the author of the note. Prevention officers from Syd- og Sønderjyllands Politi will be present at the school on Friday, together with SSP staff from Sønderborg Municipality, to speak with pupils if needed.
According to JydskeVestkysten, the note was found on Tuesday, and officers were at Nordals Skolen with dogs on Wednesday. The newspaper reports that searches were carried out as part of the response to the bomb threat.
Nordals Skolen is a municipal school in Nordborg on the island of Als, in Sønderborg Municipality. Communication with parents in Danish schools runs through Aula, the national platform used for messages between schools and families.
Police have not said whether the school day on Friday will proceed as normal. No arrests in the case have been reported.
