Denmark has deported a Somali man who had accumulated seven expulsion orders. Immigration and Integration Minister Morten Bødskov confirmed the removal during a parliamentary consultation on Thursday.
The man, 29-year-old Asad Ali Osman, left Denmark on September 16, according to DR. Bødskov disclosed the case during a samråd, a formal questioning session, in the Folketing on September 24. He said he was very satisfied to be able to tell parliament that Osman had traveled out to Somalia.
Osman’s defense lawyer, Glenn Verding Hein, confirmed the removal to the news agency Ritzau. Per Hein, the departure was not voluntary. The lawyer added that he has not had access to the communication between the two countries.
Seven expulsion orders
Osman had seven expulsion orders behind him, some conditional and some unconditional, DR reports. He was most recently sentenced to expulsion by the Eastern High Court, Østre Landsret, in late June 2026. The Ministry of Immigration and Integration declined to provide further details about the case.
A deportation of a convicted criminal from Denmark to Somalia is rare. Ekstra Bladet reported that Somalia generally does not accept its criminal citizens, which makes this case unusual. Because Hein has not seen the exchanges between the authorities, he said he does not know what the arrangement was based on.
Ekstra Bladet also reported that Bødskov presented the removal as the result of efforts to secure Osman’s departure, not as voluntary repatriation. TV2 Fyn repeated the deportation and the lawyer’s confirmation that Osman did not leave of his own accord. Neither outlet reported any detail on how the transfer was organized.
During the June case at the Eastern High Court, prosecutor Tine Gråkjær said Osman had spent most of his adult life in prison, according to Ekstra Bladet. Osman’s brothers have also been convicted of crimes in Denmark.
His older brother, Osman Ali Osman, has been described in Danish media as a former leader of the now disbanded gang 9hunna. Ekstra Bladet has reported that he later led the banned group Loyal To Familia, known as LTF, on Funen.
In March 2026, the Eastern High Court sentenced the older brother to two years in prison and unconditional expulsion, with a ban on re-entering Denmark for 12 years. He had previously received four conditional expulsion orders and a formal warning of expulsion.
Osman Ali Osman did not appear at the High Court hearing in March, DR reports. At the time, the prosecution service could not say where he was located.
