Thieves have stolen side mirrors from 23 expensive cars in Solrød and Køge since the weekend, and Midt- and Vestsjællands Police have opened an investigation.
DR reports that Midt- and Vestsjællands Police have received 23 reports of stolen side mirrors since the weekend. The targeted vehicles were expensive models from BMW, Mercedes and Audi. The police district confirmed the figure in its daily report on September 24, 2026.
Seventeen of the thefts took place in Solrød, according to DR. The largest concentration was on Troldmands Allé in Karlstrup, where 12 cars were hit. The remaining reports came from various locations in Køge.
Deputy police inspector Mads Haugaard of Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi said the reports are now being examined. Per DR, officers have received a few submissions of video surveillance, which they are reviewing.
Haugaard said the footage is being checked to establish the method used by the perpetrators. Police also want to see whether anyone can be recognized, and whether the thefts are connected.
One report came in during the night before September 24. As reported by DR, a 39 year old man in Solrød Strand woke to a loud crack. When he looked outside, he saw a person running away, and both side mirrors were missing from his car.
Police appeal for witnesses
Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi is asking for witnesses who saw or heard anything relevant. In its daily report, the district also asks for footage from home surveillance systems and from cameras mounted inside cars.
Haugaard said police are interested in observations of people or vehicles in the affected areas at the relevant times. Anyone with information can contact the police on 114.
He also acknowledged that the thefts can create unease among residents. According to DR, he described it as highly inconvenient for owners who find their car missing its mirrors in the morning.

Solrød and Køge are neighboring municipalities in the Region Zealand area, south of Copenhagen. Both fall within the Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi district, which covers a large part of central and western Zealand.
Police have not reported any arrests in the case. The investigation into whether the thefts form a single series is continuing, according to DR. Owners of the affected vehicles, many of whom rely on car insurance for damage claims, filed their reports with the district over the past several days.
