Novo Nordisk CEO faces investors after 70% share crash

Novo Nordisk opens its Capital Markets Day in London on Monday, where chief executive Mike Doustdar must convince investors that the company can recover from a collapse in its share price.

According to DR, the presentation begins at 10:00 Danish time and is expected to run until 16:30. Doustdar must address investors, analysts and the international press. He joined Novo Nordisk in 1992 as a summer temp in the reception of the company’s Vienna office.

Doustdar took over as chief executive in August 2025. Novo says its executive management will give a comprehensive overview of strategy, research pipeline, business operations and performance. The company’s investor calendar lists the day as running from 09:00 to 15:30 British time.

DR reports that Novo has lost more than 70 percent of its market value since the peak in the summer of 2024. At the same time, pressure from competitors in the obesity drug market has grown. The company has been through layoffs, internal power struggles and board conflicts over the past two years.

When Doustdar took the top job, the share traded just above 300 kroner. It can now be bought for a little over 280 kroner, per DR. Competition on the obesity market has not eased since the change of leadership.

Analysts call the day a test

Jacob Pedersen, investment strategist at Middelfart Sparekasse, told DR that the importance of the day cannot be overstated. He said investors have a very large need for an explanation of the crisis and of how it will be solved. He described the presentation as a very important exam for Doustdar.

Pedersen also said a credibility gap remains between Novo and its investors. In his assessment, it is far from certain that investors will accept the company’s full account of the way out of the share price crisis.

Søren Løntoft Hansen, equity analyst at AL Sydbank, said it is very difficult for Novo to ease concerns about growth right now. He pointed to strong competition and price pressure in the market. He added that the day is important, but not necessarily the most important day for Doustdar, because the company is under pressure from several sides.

Reuters reported on September 14, 2026, that Novo would unveil details of its business strategy at the London event. The same reporting said the company had rebranded as Novo, while keeping Novo Nordisk A/S as its legal name.

In a statement issued on September 14, the company said it would present its updated strategy at the Capital Markets Day. The statement followed the introduction of the slogan Lasting Health Starts Now and a new corporate culture framework called The Novo Way.

DR states that it is covering the full Capital Markets Day on dr.dk with articles and a live blog. The Novo Nordisk share remains the most closely watched stock on the Copenhagen exchange.
