New figures from the Danish Culture Ministry show that young people with a kulturpas spend most of the money on cinema tickets. Culture Minister Zenia Stampe says the numbers will feed into further talks about the scheme.
DR reports that 67.5 percent of the money spent through the culture pass has gone to cinema tickets. That corresponds to just over 4 million kroner. The figures appear in Stampe’s written answer to Venstre culture spokesperson Marie Bjerre.
The answer was published on August 19, 2026, and first reported by Kulturmonitor. Bjerre had asked the minister for a status report on the scheme. The answer to the Folketing’s Culture Committee is based on data from Acomplish, the company operating the kulturpas platform.
The second largest category is “ticket provider”, covering theatre, concerts and comedy. It accounts for almost 17 percent of spending, or just over 998,000 kroner, according to the minister’s answer. In total, young recipients have spent just under 6 million kroner so far.
More young people signed up over the summer
The minister states that 10,721 young people have now been granted a culture pass. More than 3,000 cultural actors across Denmark are registered as places where the pass can be used. In July 2026, DR reported that 7,439 young people had used the pass, and the number has risen since.
The kulturpas was created by the previous SVM government. It gives 1,000 kroner earmarked for cultural experiences and local sports activities. The target group is the roughly 50,000 young people in Denmark who are neither in work nor in education.
According to DR, the current government wants to make the pass available to more young people. Stampe says she is glad to receive the figures, so they can be used in the coming discussions. She adds that she has greater ambitions for how broadly the pass should reach into Danish sports and cultural life, including what it can be spent on.
Berlingske has reported that the scheme has struggled to reach the narrow group of vulnerable young people it was designed for. In that coverage, Stampe said experience so far suggests the pass may need to be opened to a broader target group. Kulturmonitor notes that uptake of the scheme is improving.
Films dominate the spending, while theatre, concerts and comedy make up a smaller share. The registered providers include venues across the country, among them Aarhus Teater, according to DR. Cinema tickets remain the single largest use of the money in Danish cinema venues.
The evaluation of the culture pass scheme is expected to be ready in 2027, the minister states in her answer.
