Copenhagen Pride Week reaches its climax on Saturday, August 15, with the Pride Parade crossing the city and a closing concert on Rådhuspladsen headlined by pop singer Kedde.
DR reports that the Southern Jutland singer Kedde is the main name at Saturday evening’s concert on Rådhuspladsen in Copenhagen. He is helping close out a Pride month in which several Danish cities have marked diversity with rainbow colors, debates, parties and music.
According to DR, the Copenhagen Pride Parade sets off at 1 p.m. on Saturday from Frederiksberg Rådhus and winds its way to Rådhuspladsen. The parade draws thousands of spectators each year and is rounded off with the concert on the square.
The official schedule
Copenhagen Pride states that this year’s Pride Week runs from August 8 to 16, with culture, music and activism across the city. The organization’s parade page confirms the 1 p.m. start time on Saturday and the finish at Pride Square on Rådhuspladsen.
Copenhagen Tourism describes the same route, from Frederiksberg City Hall to Pride Square, and notes that the parade and the events on the square are free and open to all. VisitCopenhagen also lists Pride Week as a citywide event ending at City Hall Square.
Kedde’s three song picks
DR asked Kedde which songs he would recommend to set the mood before the parade and concert. He said the right tracks are those that invite both celebration and community, and added that he is especially looking forward to performing his own song “Kun for os.” Per DR, he described the song as being about how people always find each other, particularly in the urban settings that hold a special place in queer life.
His first recommendation is Mekdes’ “The Boy I Am,” which was released earlier this year. As reported by DR, Kedde connected the song to Mekdes’ realization that he is trans, and said it puts words to a queer experience and creates a sense of being seen and heard. The two artists previously recorded the duet “Jeg håber,” released last year.
Kedde’s second pick is Lady Gaga’s “Dance in the Dark,” from the 2009 album “The Fame Monster.” According to DR, he called the track dramatic in a good way and well suited to karaoke-style celebration at home.
The third is American singer Chappell Roan’s “Femininomenon.” Kedde told DR that the song is funny and moves from singalong into dancefloor territory, and that he likes both her lyrics and her style, which draws heavily on drag culture. Chappell Roan is best known for her 2024 hit “Good Luck, Babe!”
