Two teachers from Vejen Friskole, including 27-year-old influencer Camilla Dohn, were killed in a motorcycle accident near Vejen on Wednesday morning.
The crash happened on Lykkegårdsvej in Veerst, in Vejen Municipality in South-west Jutland. DR reports that Dohn, who worked as a teacher at Vejen Friskole, lost her life in the accident on Wednesday morning.
A man in his 40s who was riding as a passenger on the motorcycle also died. According to DR, he was likewise employed as a teacher at Vejen Friskole. No police statement about the crash had been published at the time of writing.
Jens Søndergaard, the head of Vejen Friskole, told DR Syd that staff at the school are enormously affected by the two deaths. He said the school leadership is now taking care of colleagues, parents and pupils, who begin the new school year on Tuesday. Søndergaard declined to comment further, as the grief was too overwhelming.
Known for an imperfect life online
Dohn was a well-known Danish influencer who wrote about lifestyle and home interiors. She was particularly active on Instagram and TikTok, where she had 100,000 followers, according to Nathalie Larsen, an influencer expert and creative director at the communications agency Lead Agency.
Larsen told DR that Dohn managed to be relatable without turning it into a strategy. Her universe was marked by self-irony, everyday chaos and a great deal of humor, Larsen said. She described Dohn as showing the less polished sides of life, which gave followers a strong sense of authenticity.
As stated by Larsen, Dohn was part of a counter-movement to the very polished and glamorous side of influencer culture. She was known for the not-so-staged life and for making people laugh at ordinary, everyday situations. Larsen added that Dohn also broke taboos about relationships, including the large age difference between herself and her ex-husband.
Dohn was open about life with two small children and did not hide that daily life was not always perfect. Among Danish influencers, she stood out for that unvarnished approach, per Larsen’s description to DR.
After news of her death was shared on Facebook on Thursday, numerous users posted condolences. Commenters recalled her funny and sweet videos and expressed sympathy for her family, her partner and her colleagues. Several wrote that their thoughts were especially with her two young children.
DR published a photograph of Dohn with permission from her ex-husband, Ralf Dohn. As of Thursday, DR’s report remained the only detailed public account of the accident in Veerst.
