Mysterious Pile of 31 Tires Baffles Denmark

31 car tires mysteriously appeared scattered across a road near Nørre Snede late Saturday night, prompting an emergency response to clear the route for traffic.

Unusual discovery in the middle of the night

Just after 1 a.m. on Sunday, the duty officer from Brand & Redning MidtVest was alerted about a series of car tires lying on the road near Nørre Snede in central Jutland. A passerby had contacted the emergency line after noticing a strange sight on the otherwise quiet rural route.

When the emergency team arrived, they found 31 passenger car tires stretched along a one-kilometer section of two connecting local roads, Leretvej and Lyngholmvej. It was an unusual call for the on-duty leader, who described it as one of the more “atypical” incidents he had handled at that hour.

Blocking traffic and raising safety concerns

At that time of night, there are few municipal workers available. Because of that, the fire and rescue service automatically takes responsibility for public road safety in such situations. The responders quickly realized that the scattered tires could pose a danger to motorists if left on the road.

To prevent potential accidents similar to what could happen when a driver hits a possible wolf on a Danish highway, the emergency officer manually moved each tire off to the side. The last thing anyone wanted was for a car to swerve unexpectedly on a dark road.

After relocating the tires, the team ensured that the area was safe for passing vehicles. The officer said the tires were heavy but manageable, and it was fortunate that no accidents had occurred before they arrived.

Tires collected and placed on nearby farmland

Once the immediate danger was under control, the emergency leader faced another problem: what to do with 31 stray tires in the middle of the night. Since no owners had come forward, he decided to pull them onto a nearby field to keep them out of the way.

By morning, traffic across Nørre Snede was back to normal. The tires were left neatly stacked, and the rescue service hoped the rightful owner would retrieve them later. According to the emergency crew, the tires no longer posed any risk or inconvenience to passing motorists.

Likely origin of the tires

Even though there was no eyewitness account explaining how the tires ended up on the road, the officer shared his best guess. Based on their appearance, the tires may have fallen off a tractor trailer. Many of them looked like ones used for covering silage during the agricultural season.

That explanation seems plausible given the location, surrounded by farmland. Sometimes farmers transport large numbers of used tires to weigh down plastic sheets on silage piles. If fastened improperly, they can easily slip off the trailer when driven over rough terrain or uneven roads.

Cleanup completed and community unaffected

By dawn, the scene looked as though nothing had happened. No damage or injuries were reported, and the municipality did not expect to issue further statements unless new information surfaced. Thankfully, the cleanup was handled before early-morning drivers began their commute.

The incident once again underscores the unpredictable nature of emergency calls in rural Denmark, where first responders often wear many hats. Whether it is moving 31 car tires or assisting after a wildlife accident on a Danish highway, they remain prepared for almost anything.
