Kulturværftet and Toldkammeret in Helsingør are set to host a vibrant and artistic Danish Cultural Night on September 26, offering a diverse evening of light, music, exhibitions, and community activities for all ages.
Culture Night Lights Up Helsingør
On Friday, September 26, the Danish cultural night take over institutions like Kulturværftet and Toldkammeret in Helsingør who will open their doors for Kulturnatten—or Culture Night—an evening dedicated to creative expression, sensorial experiences, and communal celebration. From interactive mask-making for children to poetic art installations and disco dancing, the event promises something for everyone. It is a night for art, music, and fun for all ages.
The theme of light versus darkness will be at the center of many activities, pushing visual and aural boundaries, while also creating a welcoming atmosphere for families, young adults, and seniors alike. The event is made to feel welcoming for everyone.
Youth Art Exhibition Explores Themes of Light and Sound
One of the evening’s highlights is the exhibition “Forbliv i lys” (“Remain in Light”), presented by students from BGK Artlab, Kulturværftet’s artistic talent program for young people. Located in Krydsfeltet at Kulturværftet, the installation invites visitors into an immersive world of contrasting elements—light and shadow, silence and sound—all crafted by the young artists themselves.
From 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the exhibit will be open to the public free of charge, encouraging audiences to engage with contemporary artistic expressions shaped by youth perspectives.
Mask-Making Workshop for Children
Families with young children can join a creative mask workshop guided by artist Katja Bie. Taking place at the children’s art school (Billedskolen) inside Toldkammeret, this hands-on event allows participants to make their own colorful, glittery masks using paper, paint, and imagination.
Running from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, the workshop offers a welcoming space where kids can explore their creativity and take their personalized creations home. Entrance to the Danish cultural night is free.
Food and Fellowship at the Cultural Table
A key part of the evening will be dedicated to shared meals and conversation. From 5:45 PM to 7:00 PM, Toldkammeret will host a communal dinner in a cozy setting. With a menu designed to appeal to a wide audience, the meal is priced at 95 DKK (about $13.50 USD) per person—affordable and accessible for family gatherings or casual visitors.
Kulturværftet’s own restaurant, Spisehuset, will also remain open through 9:30 PM, offering extended hours to ensure guests don’t miss a bite while soaking in the festivities.
A Disco Throwback to Finish the Night
Following dinner, the rhythm turns up as Toldkammeret transforms into a dance floor with Instant Disco, hosted by DJ Mikkel Bagger, a familiar name from Danish radio station P4. Known for grooves that get even shy dancers on the floor, the event promises funky disco beats and a playful end to the Danish cultural night.
Running until 9:00 PM, this musical finale invites guests to revisit their favorite dance moves—or invent new ones—under swirling lights and nostalgic rhythms.
