A 24-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for firing an automatic rifle at the Hells Angels clubhouse in Randers in January 2025.
The verdict was delivered by the district court in Randers on September 10, 2026. DR reports that the man was convicted of taking part in a series of shots fired at the biker group’s then clubhouse. The building sits in a residential area in central Randers.
According to DR, the court doubled the sentence under Denmark’s gang legislation. The court found that the man acted on behalf of the banned gang Loyal To Familia to sharpen a conflict with Hells Angels. Special prosecutor Dorthe Lysgaard of East Jutland Police explained the reasoning to DR.
Shots fired at night in a residential street
The shooting took place during the night leading into January 23, 2025. At least three shots were fired at the clubhouse with an AK-47 automatic rifle. The court treated the location as an aggravating circumstance, since it lies close to both a school and a daycare center.
As stated by East Jutland Police, no one was inside the building and no one was injured. Lysgaard noted to DR that the timing at night meant nobody was hurt. She added that this is not always a guarantee against harm.
Per the prosecution, the man admitted taking part in the shooting. He denied any affiliation with Loyal To Familia. He also denied that the shooting was meant to start a gang conflict.
Sentence appealed
The 24-year-old has appealed the 10-year sentence, seeking a reduction. TV2 Østjylland also reported the verdict on the day it was handed down. According to the court in Randers, the case was heard as a jury trial.
Lysgaard told DR that the prosecution had asked for five and a half years, which the gang enhancement would have turned into 11 years. The court set the base sentence at five years, doubled to ten. She described the outcome as satisfactory compared with the general sentencing level.
With this verdict, three men have now been convicted in the case. DR reports that the two others received six and a half years and seven years. Their sentences were reduced because they confessed.
All three were also given residence bans covering Randers and certain areas of Copenhagen. They are barred from contacting other people linked to Loyal To Familia. East Jutland Police state that the contact ban imposed on the 24-year-old runs for eight years.
Two additional people have been charged in the case, according to DR. The Hells Angels clubhouse targeted in the shooting is described as the group’s former premises in the city.
